A single ticket turned an ordinary Monday night into a historic moment for Delaware, as the Powerball jackpot climbed to $231 million before finally hitting. Now, one lucky player is holding the state's biggest lottery prize ever, edging out a record that stood for more than two decades. This latest jackpot win is adding fresh momentum to what’s shaping up to be a fast-moving year for Powerball wins nationwide.

Latest Powerball win

For the Monday, April 6, 2026, Powerball draw, one lucky ticket matched all the winning numbers to win the jackpot. The jackpot had grown to $231 million before last night's win.

The winning white ball numbers for this drawing were 7, 24, 37, 42, and 57, and the Powerball number was 5. Power Play was 2X.

The winning ticket was purchased at an Acme store located at 460 E. Main Street in Middletown, Delaware. The lucky ticket holder now has one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

In addition to the jackpot winner, there was another big winner. One ticket purchased in Texas matched all five of the white ball numbers and added the Power Play option to his ticket. That means this lucky ticket holder won $2 million.

Breaking records in Delaware

This Powerball win also happened to break some records in the state of Delaware. The previous largest jackpot ever won by a lottery player in the state dated back to 2004.

On Saturday, October 9, 2004, one lucky ticket matched all the winning numbers drawn that night for the Powerball multi-state game.

That ticket happened to be purchased by a lottery pool. It was a group of 33 employees who worked for a printing company in Seaford, Delaware.

That jackpot was at $214.7 million. After taking the cash option and splitting it 33 ways, each lucky winner received a payment of $2.66 million after federal taxes.

On Sunday morning, one of the winning players checked the Delaware Lottery website to see if they had a winning ticket following the previous night's drawing. It did match all the winning numbers, and the celebration began.

A representative for the group told lottery officials they are regular players of the Powerball game, especially when the jackpot gets bigger. Several members of the group said they plan on using their winnings to pay for college tuition and other future family expenses.

2026: A year of winning?

With this latest jackpot win in Delaware, it is the third jackpot win of 2026 for Powerball players. The previous jackpot wins in 2026 include:

  • March 2 – $250.8 million jackpot win by a ticket purchased in Arkansas.
  • January 21 – $209.3 million jackpot win by a ticket purchased in North Carolina.

Comparing that to 2025, there were a total of five jackpot wins that year. One of those wins included the $1.79 billion jackpot split by winners in Texas and Missouri. It looks like 2026 could bring even more jackpot wins than 2025, if this pace continues.
