About the Pennsylvania Lottery

Pennsylvania Scenery

The Pennsylvania State Lottery was established in 1971, and the first game was held in 1972.

Pennsylvania is the only state lottery that designates all its proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. To date, more than $29 billion has been contributed to programs like low-cost prescription assistance, senior centers and meals, care services, and property tax rebates. Fans of playing the lottery know that along with funding their dream of hitting the big jackpot, they are also giving back to the seniors in their communities.

FAQS

When should I claim my prize?

You have one year from the game’s end sale date to collect scratch-off prizes, one year from the drawing date to collect draw game prizes, and one year from the purchase date to collect fast play prizes. In addition, fast play and draw game tickets worth more than $100 cannot be claimed at a retailer after 180 days. They must be submitted to the Lottery with a claim form.

Should I sign my lottery ticket?

Yes. If your ticket is lost or stolen and you haven’t signed it, you may not be able to claim it as your own. You should also clearly print your name, address, and phone number on your ticket.

Can I buy Pennsylvania Lottery tickets over the phone or by mail?

Pennsylvania offers a variety of online instant win games as well as tickets for Mega Millions and Powerball through their PA iLottery platform and App. You cannot purchase however, lottery tickets by mail or phone.

Do I have to pay taxes on my prizes?
