Prior to July 1998, all profits were dedicated to the state’s general fund. Since July 1998, all profits generated by the Vermont Lottery have been earmarked for the state’s education fund. With only 21 full-time employees, the Vermont Lottery staff is one of the smallest of any lottery in the U.S.

You have 365 days from the date of the draw to collect your winnings.
Prizes of $499 or less can be claimed at any authorized Vermont Lottery Agent and you will receive your prize that day. Prizes between $500 and $5,000 may be claimed at the Vermont Lottery Headquarters in Berlin or at any People’s United Bank in Vermont between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except legal holidays. Prizes over $5,000 must be claimed at the Vermont Lottery Headquarters. These bigger prices can take a few days to be processed, and if you mail your ticket you should wait at least a couple of weeks to make sure it was received by them.
Yes. If your ticket is damaged, lost, or stolen and you haven’t signed it, you may not be able to claim it as your own.
You cannot purchase tickets online, over the phone, or by mail. You can only purchase tickets at a licensed retailer.
Yes. Lottery winnings obtained in Vermont are subject to both state and federal taxes and each January the Vermont Lottery Headquarters will issue W-2G forms to any winners of lottery prizes of $600 or over on a single ticket in the preceding year.
The Vermont Lottery is also required to withhold a percentage of certain lottery prizes for tax purposes.
