What are the chances of hitting the lottery jackpot twice in four days? For one Wilmington man, those impossible odds became a reality.

A 34-year-old player struck gold twice with Delaware's PLAY 5 game. His first win came on June 9, 2025. His second hit came just four days later, on June 13. Both winning tickets came from the same location: New Castle Shell at 3001 New Castle Ave.

First win brings $120,000 windfall

The June 9 drawing delivered a massive payday. The winner matched all five numbers: 1, 0, 0, 0, and 0. His haul was two $50,000 tickets and two $10,000 tickets for a total of $120,000.

How did he pick those numbers? He used his old phone number as inspiration. After checking the results online, disbelief set in. He immediately called his cousin to share the news.

The second strike was worth $200,000

Lightning struck twice on June 13. This time, the winning numbers were 5, 0, 1, 5, and 9, and the prize was four tickets worth $50,000 each, totaling $200,000.

These numbers carried special meaning. His grandfather regularly played 5, 0, 1, and 5 in PLAY 4. The winner decided to honor that tradition by adding a fifth digit. The gamble paid off spectacularly.

What drives a repeat winner?

This player has been at it for five years. His routine never changes. He spends $50 per session and always picks his own numbers. No quick picks. No random selections. Just personal connections to the digits he chooses.

When asked about his life-changing wins, he remained grounded. These wins will add to how blessed his life already is, he said.

Delaware Lottery celebrates rare feat

Helene Keeley, Director of the Delaware Lottery, called the story incredible.

“Winning twice in just 4 days is an unbelievable streak, and we're thrilled for him. It's also a great reminder that every number has a story—and sometimes, those stories turn into life-changing moments.”

How rare is this achievement? The Delaware Lottery has been operating since 1975. In nearly 50 years, stories like this remain exceptional.

PLAY 5 game details

PLAY 5 drawings happen seven days a week. Day drawings occur at 1:58 p.m. ET, with ticket sales closing at 1:40 p.m. ET. Night drawings take place at 7:57 p.m. ET, with sales ending at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Players pick five numbers from 0 to 9. Match all five in exact order to win the top prize.

Delaware Lottery's impact

Since 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed $6.0 billion to the state's General Fund. These funds support essential state services that benefit all Delaware residents.

Can lightning strike three times for this lucky player? Only time will tell. But his story proves that sometimes, family traditions and personal connections create the perfect combination for extraordinary luck.
