Lottery players in Arkansas aren't the only ones benefiting when they buy a ticket. Students across the state are also seeing a big payoff. The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery recently celebrated the transfer of $114.3 million to the Arkansas Division of Higher Education to help fund scholarships for students. This happens to be the second-largest scholarship fund transfer since the lottery launched in 2009. This huge milestone was marked with a check presentation, which featured lottery officials, state leaders, and scholarship recipients from 13 higher education institutions across the state.

$114.3 million headed toward Arkansas scholarships

The students attending the ceremony represented different communities, schools, fields of study, and career goals. This allowed the lottery to put some faces to the millions of dollars generated through lottery sales.

ASL Executive Director Sharon Strong said the check represents more than just a large dollar amount.

"This check represents a student who can say, 'I am able to take this leap because I have the assistance of a scholarship,'" Strong said. "Ultimately, it represents a stronger workforce, stronger communities and a stronger Arkansas."

Arkansas Division of Higher Education Commissioner Dr. Ken Warden also talked about the role these lottery-funded scholarships can play in making college more accessible.

Warden said, "Every student deserves a path that fits their goals and talents, and lottery-funded scholarships help remove financial barriers to ensure that journey is a reality.”

Over $1.6 billion in scholarships

For Fiscal Year 2026, the Arkansas Lottery transferred $114.3 million. This adds to a much bigger amount that has been transferred since the lottery started selling tickets in 2009.

According to lottery officials, over $8.6 billion worth of tickets have been sold since the lottery debuted. Of those sales, over $1.6 billion has been returned for scholarships benefiting Arkansas students.

Of that $1.6 billion, it has helped support over 873,000 college scholarships that have been distributed by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

This money generated by lottery ticket sales has also gone to other recipients. As of July 31, 2026, over $5.9 billion has been awarded to lottery winners. Lottery retailers have also received over $489 million in commissions. The state lottery has also sent over $461 million to state and federal tax revenue.

One lottery ticket can have an impact beyond the jackpot

Taking a look at these numbers gives you a glimpse into where money from a lottery ticket purchase can end up after the drawings are over and the prizes have been claimed.

For these students in Arkansas, the impact can mean financial assistance toward a college education.

Strong said they don’t know where their education will take them, the careers they build, the businesses they create, the families they support, or the communities they strengthen, but these scholarship recipients will help shape Arkansas’ future.

With another $114.3 million now being transferred for scholarships, the lottery’s latest big payout isn’t going to just one lucky ticket holder. This program is designed to benefit students across the state for years to come.

Enjoy playing the Arkansas Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
