A Connecticut man's Father's Day gift just got a whole lot better. Burton Chase won $200,000 on a Wisconsin Winnings scratch ticket his Wisconsin-local daughter gave him.

Chase, a Vietnam veteran and helicopter worker, opened the card the day before Father's Day. He scratched the ticket and couldn't believe his eyes. A quick call to his daughters followed, but they thought he was joking. A picture of the winning ticket convinced them.

The family planned a trip to Wisconsin to claim the prize, coinciding with his daughter's 50th birthday. Travel chaos due to global IT issues didn't stop them.

Chase plans to use the winnings for a family vacation to the Turks and Caicos Islands. The rest? He'll share it with his family.

The lucky ticket was bought at a Walmart in Minocqua. Wisconsin Lottery retailers selling winning tickets worth more than $599 earn a two percent bonus, up to a maximum of $100,000.

Wisconsin Winnings still has one $200,000 prize left. Your odds of winning are one in 372,000.

How to play Wisconsin Winnings

This scratch-off game is all about finding matching symbols and landing lucky icons. Here are the instructions.

  • Uncover matching symbols: Each game on the ticket has three spots. Scratch to reveal the symbols hidden beneath. Match all three symbols in a game to win the prize shown for that game.
  • Land the Cheese Wedge: If you uncover a Cheese Wedge symbol in any game, you win the prize for that game automatically. It's a freebie!
  • Boost your winnings with Cherries: Spot a Cherries symbol? Great! Your prize for that game is multiplied by five.
  • Hit the jackpot with Bass: If a Bass symbol swims into view, your winnings for that game are multiplied by a whopping ten times.
  • Aim for the big prize: The top prize in Wisconsin Winnings is a cool $200,000. Keep scratching and see if you can land this ultimate catch.

Claiming your prize

Hit the jackpot? Congrats! Now, it's time to claim your winnings. Here's a breakdown of how to do it based on your prize amount:

  • Small wins (up to $599): For smaller prizes, you have a few options. Visit your local Wisconsin Lottery retailer, head to a Wisconsin Lottery office in Madison or Milwaukee, or mail in your winning ticket.
  • Medium wins ($600 to $199,999): If your prize falls in this range, you'll need to visit a state lottery office in Madison or Milwaukee or send it in by mail.
  • Big wins ($200,000+): For those lucky enough to win $200,000 or more, head to the Madison Lottery office. It's a good idea to call ahead to make arrangements.
  • Jackpot winners (Powerball, Mega Millions, Megabucks): If you've hit one of the big jackpot games, you'll definitely want to call the Lottery office in advance to schedule an appointment.
