Rhode Island Lottery players hit the jackpot in more ways than one during yesterday's The Numbers Midday drawing, as an uncanny combination turned January 27 (01/27) into a day to remember. With a staggering 762% payout across the state, it's clear plenty of players had their eyes on the calendar — and their strategy paid off big time.

From laundromats to grocery stores, the winning tickets came from all corners of the Ocean State, making this a day of unforgettable prizes and lucky picks.

The big payout

The midday drawing for The Numbers game in Rhode Island delivered a payout of 762% across the state. The reason? The winning combination came up 1-0-2-7, which happened to be a combination of the day and month yesterday, January 27 (01/27).

Lottery officials stated there were some big winners among those payouts, which included:

  • $26,040 winner from a ticket purchased at the Stop & Shop in Westerly.
  • Seven winners had a total of $32,500 in winnings from tickets purchased at Sparkle City Laundromat in Pawtucket.
  • Two $5,000 winning tickets were sold at Carolyn Market.

There were other winning tickets sold, with prizes ranging from $2,500 to $5,208.

More about The Numbers

The daily Numbers game debuted in 1976 for the Rhode Island Lottery. This happened to be the first Rhode Island Lottery game where players could select their own numbers with the hopes of matching the randomly drawn numbered balls.

Drawings for The Numbers are held twice a day, with the Midday drawing taking place at 1:30 p.m. ET and the evening drawing taking place at 7:29 p.m. ET. Tickets for the midday draw can be purchased up to 1:20 p.m. ET, and tickets for the evening draw can be purchased until 6:50 p.m. ET.

From 1994 through 2020, students majoring in communications at local colleges and universities in Rhode Island would host the televised evening drawings of The Numbers. This gave them valuable career experience while in school.

Winning number combinations

It seems that this high payout in Rhode Island was due to the winning combination (1-0-2-7) being so closely aligned with the day and month yesterday, which was 1/27. With a 762% payout, a lot of people must play the date for every The Numbers drawing.

While the date seems like a popular choice, Quads are also popular picks. In North Carolina, 8-8-8-8 recently came up for their Pick 4 draw game. With that winning combination, the state lottery gave out over $12.2 million in prizes.

We have also seen 4-4-4-4 come up for Pick 4 players in South Carolina in November 2024, which happened to be the third time that the winning combination came up in 2024. That winning combination paid out over $6.5 million in prizes.

Players in the District of Columbia won over $1 million in prizes when 8-8-8-8 came up for their DC 4 game back in September 2024. That was the first of back-to-back quad wins for DC 4 players, who saw 4-4-4-4 come up the very next night.

Enjoy playing the Rhode Island Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
