One lucky ticket sold in Illinois hits the $4.1 million Lotto jackpot- is it you?

A new millionaire has been crowned thanks to the Illinois Lottery, and it could be you if you played the Lotto game and purchased your ticket in McCook for the May 2 drawing.

A jackpot-winning ticket was recently sold for the Lotto jackpot, which was at $4.1 million for the May 2 drawing.

The winning ticket

If you live or buy lottery tickets in McCook, you need to pay attention!

The winning Lotto ticket was purchased at BP gas station, located at 8222 Joliet Road in McCook, for the May 2 drawing. For selling the winning ticket, BP will receive a selling bonus of one percent of the prize amount, or $41,000.

The winning numbers for the May 2 drawing were 2, 3, 9, 19, 32, and 40. The winning ticket matched all six of the numbers to win the $4.1 million jackpot prize.

In addition to the jackpot win, the Lottery announced that over 55,000 other winning tickets were purchased for the May 2 Lotto drawing.

Big wins playing Lotto in 2024

While the $4.1 million jackpot is a very nice prize, it isn’t the biggest Lotto jackpot won in 2024. It has been a good year so far for Lotto players in Illinois. The $4.1 million jackpot comes in as the third-largest Lotto jackpot prize won in 2024.

The other jackpots coming in higher? That would be a $10.4 million jackpot sold in Park Ridge in February and a $5.45 million jackpot sold in Chicago in March.

It’s not just jackpot wins either for Lotto players. So far, in 2024, there have been over 2.2 million winning Lotto tickets sold. Of those 2.2 million winners, the total prizes awarded are more than $25.6 million!

Claiming your prize

The lucky $4.1 million jackpot winner has one year from the date of the draw (May 2) in which to claim their prize. The Lottery encourages all lucky winners to write their name on the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they’re ready to claim their prize.

Revenue from the Illinois Lottery

The Illinois Lottery was founded in 1974. Since 1985, the Lottery has contributed more than $24 billion to the State’s Common School Fund in support of K-12 public education in the state.

The Lottery states that about 24% of every dollar played on the Illinois Lottery is used to support education and other good causes. For fiscal year 2023, Illinois Lottery players helped generate $882 million for the State of Illinois, most of which helped fund education.
