About the New Mexico Lottery
Former governor Gary Johnson authorized the New Mexico Lottery in 1995, and the first tickets went on sale in 1996.
New Mexico joined major multi-state lottery games in the mid-1990s and expanded its multi-state offerings in subsequent decades. The state has also developed New Mexico-specific lottery games over the years, providing residents with various ways to participate in both state and national lottery games.
Proceeds from the New Mexico Lottery are dedicated to supporting education throughout the state. Lottery revenue helps fund higher education opportunities for New Mexico residents, including assistance with tuition costs at public colleges and universities. Since its establishment, the lottery has provided consistent funding to make college more accessible and affordable for students in New Mexico.
