How high can it go? Megabucks crosses the $20M mark

The game has gone over a year without a jackpot winner, fueling a historic run to the third-largest jackpot.

Massachusetts Lottery players are watching closely, as the Megabucks draw game jackpot just keeps growing. The in-state draw game jackpot has grown to $20.4 million after the Wednesday night drawing came and went without a grand-prize winner. The Megabucks jackpot now stands as the third-largest jackpot in the game's history, extending a streak that has lasted for over a year. With each new rollover, the same question keeps coming up: How high can it go?

A historic lottery run

This current jackpot run started after the last jackpot-winning ticket was sold on April 21, 2025. The jackpot at that time was $1.97 million. Since that drawing, no players have matched all six numbers. This has allowed the top prize to climb to $20.4 million, the third biggest jackpot ever.

While Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots typically grow into the hundreds of millions, these in-state games don't always get that high, let alone a jackpot run for over a year.

At $20.4 million, it's the third-largest jackpot in the game's history. If one ticket were to match all of the winning numbers, it would be the biggest single-ticket win for Megabucks.

You see, the top jackpot was for $21.7 million on October 16, 1985. That jackpot was shared by eight winning tickets. Then, it was $21.1 million on January 8, 1986. That jackpot was shared among four winning tickets.

Can a single ticket take home the big jackpot?

What happens next?

The next draw will determine whether the streak finally comes to an end or whether the jackpot continues to grow higher. The next drawing takes place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET.

If no ticket matches all six of the winning numbers drawn that night, the prize will continue to grow. We will move one step closer to possibly taking over that top spot on the jackpot leaderboard.

As the jackpot grows, we always see more and more tickets being bought. That means more people have a chance to win, but also, the more ticket sales mean the jackpot can climb higher faster if there is no winner.

However, the odds of winning the jackpot remain the same, regardless of the number of tickets sold. Those odds happen to be 1 in 7.06 million.

Chasing lottery history

This isn't the first time Massachusetts Lottery players have seen impressive jackpots. However, a $20 million-plus Megabucks prize remains a rare event. It's only the third time in the game's history that it has happened.

This current jackpot sits third on the list of biggest jackpots in the game's record books. Whether it takes over any of the spots above it depends on how much longer this streak continues.

For now, players across the state are left asking the same question before each drawing: Will someone finally hit the jackpot tonight, or is this historic run going to continue?

Enjoy playing the Massachusetts Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
