Will Powerball deliver the first billion-dollar jackpot of 2026?

Powerball players have spent months watching the jackpot climb. Now, one of the biggest milestones in the lottery world is within reach. For the Monday, August 10, drawing, the estimated jackpot has climbed to $905 million for Powerball players. That leaves us with one big question as we head into tonight’s drawing: Will Powerball produce the first billion-dollar jackpot of 2026 with this current jackpot run?

No jackpot winner since May

This current Powerball jackpot run has been building since early May.

The last time anyone matched all six of the winning numbers drawn was on May 2. At that time, a ticket in Florida and a ticket in Texas split a $20 million jackpot.

That happened to be the fifth jackpot win of 2026. Since then, the jackpot has survived 42 consecutive drawings without a winner. That streak has taken the jackpot from its starting point of $20 million all the way to $905 million.

While the jackpot has been elusive to Powerball players during this current jackpot run, we have seen players collecting some big prizes along the way. For Saturday's drawing, five new millionaires were produced.

One ticket in Texas matched all five of the winning white balls drawn and added the Power Play option to win $2 million. Meanwhile, four other tickets sold in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, and New York all matched the five winning white balls without the Power Play option to win $1 million each.

How does this current jackpot run rank?

Despite no one winning the jackpot over the weekend, the jackpot hasn't moved up the list of the biggest Powerball jackpots ever. Here are the Top 10 Powerball jackpots of all-time:

2. $1.82 billion – December 24, 2025 – Winning ticket sold in Arkansas.
3. $1.79 billion – September 6, 2025 – Winning tickets sold in Missouri and Texas.
4. $1.77 billion – October 11, 2023 - Winning ticket sold in California.
5. $1.59 billion – January 13, 2016 – Three jackpot-winning tickets were sold in California, Florida, and Tennessee.
6. $1.33 billion – April 6, 2024 - Winning ticket sold in Oregon.
7. $1.08 billion – July 19, 2023 – Winning ticket sold in California.
8. $905 million (estimated) – August 10, 2026 – Will someone win it all tonight, or will the jackpot run continue?

This jackpot is sitting firmly in that eighth spot. However, it would have to surpass the $1.08 billion prize won in California in July 2023 to move up the list.

Could $1 billion be next?

If nobody wins the jackpot tonight, Powerball could find itself knocking on the door of, or potentially even crossing that $1 billion mark for the first time in 2026.

While we have five jackpot winners in 2026, none of them have come close to the billion-dollar mark. Before this current run, the biggest jackpot of 2026 was the $250.8 million prize won in Arkansas on March 2.

However, it wasn't that long ago that we had a billion-dollar Powerball jackpot. The last billion-dollar Powerball jackpot came on Christmas Eve 2025. That winning ticket, also purchased in Arkansas, won a staggering $1.82 billion, which is the second-largest Powerball jackpot ever.

For now, Powerball players are chasing $905 million, with a cash option of $391.9 million available. Could it get to $1 billion?
