The Fourth of July fireworks weren't quite done for one lucky Virginia Lottery player after she discovered her big Cash 5 with EZ Match jackpot win!

The train has arrived

It was just about midnight on July 4 when Phyllis Pelham decided to jump on the Virginia Lottery app and check out the latest winning numbers. While the fireworks were over for the holiday night, they definitely started up again once the Alexandria woman saw the Cash 5 with EZ Match numbers for that night.

The winning numbers for that July 4 drawing were 9, 10, 12, 18, and 21, and Pelham happened to match all five of the winning numbers to win the $582,983 jackpot!

She told lottery officials, “My train has come into the station finally!”

Pelham bought her winning ticket at Harris Teeter, located at 4641 Duke Street in Alexandria.

After heading to the Virginia Lottery headquarters to claim her winnings, the lucky winner said she had no immediate plans for her winnings except to take care of her family.

Another lucky Cash 5 winner

The Cash 5 winners keep going strong for the Virginia Lottery. Timothy Southers already knows a thing or two about exciting wins, as he works at Martinsville Speedway. However, this time, it was him pulling out the win!

The Bassett man won big when he matched all five of the winning numbers for the July 13 Cash 5 with EZ Match drawing to win the $215,000 jackpot.

The winning numbers for the July 13 drawing were 6, 17, 31, 35, and 40, and Southers matched all five of the numbers to win the jackpot.

Southers purchased the jackpot-winning ticket at Stanley Mart, located at 1890 Fairystone Park Highway in Bassett. He used the Easy Pick option when buying his ticket, so the computer generated the winning numbers for him!

After collecting his winnings, the Bassett man said he plans on paying bills and taking care of his family.

One more try is all it took

It's a different game, but it's an even bigger prize for this Virginia Lottery player! Brent Butler wasn't having any luck playing the online Banker's Bonus game, and he was ready to give up. However, the Woodbridge man said he decided to give it one more try, which turned out to be a very wise choice!

That final try turned out to give Butler a jackpot win of $2.2 million!

Butler joked with lottery officials, “I can tell you my wife was more happy than me!”

The lucky winner is a home contractor and told lottery officials he has no immediate plans for his winnings except to pay some bills.

He joked, “I might not go to work today.”

Banker's Bonus is one of dozens of online instant games available on the Virginia Lottery app or website. It happens to be one of the Mega Money Jackpots games, which can be played in Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. The game features a progressive, growing jackpot. The odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.9.

Enjoy playing the Virginia Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
