For the first time since September 2023, the North Carolina Lottery can announce they have a $1 million jackpot winner for their Cash 5 draw game!

The winning ticket

The jackpot-winning ticket matched all five of the numbers drawn for the May 14 drawing. The winning numbers for that draw were 4, 5, 19, 23, and 29.

The winning ticket was purchased at Food Lion, located at 8100 Idlewild Road in Charlotte. So, if you bought a Cash 5 ticket from this location, you better go check to see if it's the jackpot-winning ticket!

The odds of matching numbers on all five balls playing Cash 5 are 1 in 962,598.

While the winner hasn't claimed their prize yet, they do have 180 days from the drawing date to make their way to Lottery headquarters to collect their money.

First jackpot winner since September

While there have been prize winners in every Cash 5 drawing, there has been a long stretch of no $1 million winners. That is, until last night!

The $1.16 million jackpot was the first winning ticket to bring home a Cash 5 prize over $1 million since September 2023.

Now that the jackpot was won on Tuesday, the jackpot resets to $100,000 for Wednesday night's drawing.

More big wins for North Carolina Lottery players

In addition to this big Cash 5 win for the North Carolina Lottery, officials have announced other recent lucky winners.

Steven Jarvis is one of those winners who tried his luck on a $50 scratch-off and ended up winning a $100,000 prize. The lucky ticket was the $10 Million Spectacular, which he purchased from Rose Mart, located at 942 Durham Road in Wake Forest.

Jarvis headed to lottery headquarters on Tuesday and claimed his prize, which worked out to be $71,514 after the required federal and state tax withholdings.

Another big winner happened to be the second time this week a player has won the Progressive Jackpot on a digital instant game.

Early in the morning on May 15, a lucky player from Greensboro bought a $5 Bison Bonanza ticket and won a $33,141 jackpot prize. The odds of winning that jackpot prize are 1 in 711,111.

This is the second Progressive Jackpot win this week for players. The other happened on May 13, as a woman from Cary won a $736,874 jackpot prize also playing Bison Bonanza. Her win was an honest mistake, as she thought she was playing in demo mode when she hit the jackpot. No, she was betting real money and walked away with the huge Progressive Jackpot win.

Bison Bonanza features a Progressive Jackpot with three different levels that can be won. These levels are the Big Jackpot, starting at $300; the Major Jackpot, starting at $5,000; and the Epic Jackpot, starting at $50,000.

Enjoy playing the North Carolina Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
