One lucky ticket holder had to “Take 5” after seeing the numbers drawn for the April 22 midday drawing, we are sure!

The jackpot-winning ticket

The New York Lottery announced that one top-prize winning ticket was sold for the April 22 midday drawing for Take 5. The winning numbers for that drawing were 5, 18, 21, 27, and 28.

The winning ticket was purchased at Pilot Travel Center, located at 8484 Allegheny Rd. in Corfu. The prize-winning ticket was worth $17,986.50.

Take 5 - how does it work?

Take 5 from the New York Lottery is an interesting draw game, as prizes are pari-mutuel, so the amount you win can vary.

To start, players will pick five numbers from 1 to 39, or they can ask for the Quick Pick option, and the computer will generate the numbers for them. Each game costs $1 to play.

The Take 5 drawings are held twice a day, with the midday draw taking place at 2:30 p.m. ET and the evening draw taking place at 10:30 p.m. ET.

There are four prize categories in the Take 5 game, and you need at least two matching numbers. The estimated jackpot amount is $57,575.70, but this can fluctuate based on ticket sales.

For matching two numbers, players win a free Quick Pick ticket. The remaining prize categories (the top three Take 5 prizes) are pari-mutuel. What does that mean? It means a percentage of the ticket sales is allocated to each prize category, so the prizes can vary for every draw.

To break it down even more, 50% of the sales for each Take 5 draw is used as prize money. Of that money, 20% would go to the jackpot winner, 30% would go to the second prize, and 50% would go to the third prize. The winners in each prize level would evenly split whatever money is awarded to that prize level.

For Take 5 players, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 575, 757. The odds of winning any prize in Take 5 are 1 in 8.77. If you do win a prize, you have one year from the date of the drawing to claim your prize.
