A Michigan man assumed he won $4 playing Lucky for Life with the Michigan Lottery, but instead, he won a lifetime of prizes!

The winning ticket

Daryl Tilley, 57, of Flushing, won $25,000 a year for life after his Lucky for Life ticket matched the five white balls drawn during the March 25 drawing. He bought his winning ticket on the Michigan Lottery website.

The winning white ball numbers for the March 25 draw were 1, 4, 31, 39, and 47, and the Lucky Ball was 5.

Tilley said:

Every now and then I will get online and purchase a Lucky for Life ticket. The day after the drawing, I saw an email about a prize, and I assumed it was a $4 win. When I logged into my account, I saw an amount much bigger than that! I showed my wife, and it took me a while to convince her that it was real. We were both stunned!

Claiming his prize

After the big win, Tilley took some time before he visited the Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He recently did, though, and he chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000 rather than annuity payments of $25,000 a year for 20 years or life, whichever is greater.

Now that Tilley has the check in hand, he told Lottery officials he plans to go on a vacation and save the rest of the money.

Lucky for Life and lucky for Michigan players

The word is in the game, and it rings true for Michigan Lottery players in 2024. Lucky for Life has been very lucky for players in Michigan this year. In 2024, players have won a lifetime of cash eight times playing Lucky for Life. Those lifetime wins are broken down below:

  • April 29 - Winning ticket purchased at Morning Fresh Bakery, located at 3233 North Adrian Highway in Adrian.
  • April 19 - Winning ticket purchased at Hub Sports Bistro, located at 16780 21 Mile Road in Macomb Township.
  • April 17 - Winning ticket purchased online at the Michigan Lottery website and was recently claimed by a woman in Detroit.
  • March 26 - Winning ticket purchased at Merriman Drugs, located at 31320 5 Mile Road in Livonia.
  • March 25 - Winning ticket purchased online at the Michigan Lottery website.
  • March 23 - Winning ticket purchased at the Value Center Market, located at 27428 6 Mile Road in Livonia.
  • March 12 - Winning ticket purchased online at the Michigan Lottery website and was recently claimed by a woman in Escanaba.
  • February 20 - Winning ticket purchased at Borders Corner Store, located at 7024 East Pickard Road in Mount Pleasant.

Life-changing possibilities

For just $2 per play, Lottery players get the opportunity to win prizes ranging from $3 to a lifetime of cash when they play Lucky for Life.

The top prize for Lucky for Life is $1,000 a day for life. To win this, players must match all five white ball numbers ranging from 1 to 48, plus one Lucky Ball number ranging from 1 to 18.

If you happen to match all five of the white balls but miss out on the Lucky Ball, then you win $25,000 a year for life, as Tilley did above. Drawings take place daily at 10:38 p.m. ET.

Enjoy playing the Michigan Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
