Can you imagine spending $2 and having your life change for the better? That's what happened to this Massachusetts Lottery player!

Money for life

Jacky Huang from West Springfield is that lucky player who took home the second-tier prize in a multi-state lottery game. Huang matched the first five numbers for the Lucky for Life game in the June 10 drawing. For doing so, he will now receive annual payments of $25,000 (before taxes) for the rest of his life.

For that June 10 drawing, the winning numbers were 7, 9, 14, 23, and 47, and the Lucky Ball was 17. Huang matched the first five numbers but missed out on the Lucky Ball number, which would have given him $1,000 a week for life.

Huang bought the winning ticket from County Liquor Store & Convenience, located at 272 County Road in Southampton. For selling the winning ticket, the retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Massachusetts Lottery.

Claiming his winnings

On June 20, Huang headed to the lottery headquarters in Dorchester to claim his prize. When winning this prize, the winner has two options: annual $25,000 (before taxes) payments for a minimum of 20 years or life, whichever is great, or a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000 (before taxes).

Huang decided to go with the annuity option, so he will receive $25,000 a year for the rest of his life.

When talking with Lottery officials, he said he played his birthday, his sister's birthday, and his uncle's birthday as his winning numbers. Birthday luck was on his side, for sure. Now, with his winnings, he said he plans on using it towards his and his sister's college tuition.

Biggest winner of 2024 in Massachusetts claims prize

The Massachusetts Lottery was celebrating another big win — actually the biggest win of 2024 so far — when the winner of a $15 million lottery prize came forward and claimed their prize, but remained anonymous while doing so.

The lucky winner hit it big by playing the 300X scratch-off game, which costs $30 per ticket to play. The game was released on June 13, 2023, and this is the first grand prize to be claimed in the game, Lottery officials said. As of June 20, there are still two $15 million and five $1 million prizes remaining to be claimed.

The winner decided to claim their prize through a trust called LJS Trust of Quincy, which was represented by trustee David Spillane, who took home the one-time payment of $9.75 million before taxes.

The winning ticket was purchased at Country Farms, located at 20 Main Street in Topsfield. For selling the winning ticket, the store will receive a $50,000 bonus from the Massachusetts Lottery.

While this $15 million prize is the biggest to be won in Massachusetts in 2024, the top prizes for 2023 were $33 million and $31 million, which were both Mega Millions jackpot prizes. According to the Massachusetts Lottery, both tickets were one week apart.

Enjoy playing the lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
