The Fourth of July holiday started out with a bang for one lucky Powerball ticket holder in Ohio!

The jackpot-winning ticket

The Powerball jackpot climbed to $139.3 million for the Wednesday, July 3 draw, and a single ticket purchased in Ohio matched all six numbers drawn to win the big jackpot. The cash value of the jackpot is $66.5 million.

The winning white ball numbers for that July 3 Powerball drawing were 2, 26, 33, 55, and 57, with the Powerball number being 22. In addition, the Power Play multiplier was 2X.

The winning ticket was sold at a Walmart store, located at 7680 Brandt Pike in Huber Heights, which is located just north of the Dayton area in Ohio. The lucky ticket holder chose the Quick Pick option when purchasing the ticket, Ohio Lottery officials said.

Claiming their winnings

Now that the lucky ticket holder has won the $139.3 million jackpot, they have some options when they go to claim their prize. The winner can choose between an annuitized prize of $139.3 million or a lump sum payment of $66.5 million (before taxes).

For the annuity option, the winner would receive one immediate payment, which would then be followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5 percent each year.

Great start for Powerball jackpots in 2024

We have just started the seventh month of 2024, but we have already seen five Powerball jackpot winners this year. In 2023, the jackpot was won a total of five times!

The last Powerball jackpot win came on June 10 when a ticket purchased in New Jersey won the $222.6 million jackpot ($104.7 million cash value). The winning numbers for that drawing were 3, 10, 33, 58, and 59, and the Powerball number was 9.

After this latest jackpot win, the Powerball jackpot will now reset to $20 million for the next drawing, which takes place on Saturday, July 6.

Other Powerball winners

While it was a big win for the state of Ohio, some other states and players had reason to celebrate after last night's drawing. Overall, there were 388,650 winning tickets sold nationwide for the July 3 drawing.

Of those winners, we had three tickets that matched all five of the white balls drawn to win the second-tier prize. One of those tickets was sold in Pennsylvania, and the other two were sold in California.

For the Pennsylvania ticket, state lottery officials have not revealed where the ticket was purchased, so make sure to check your ticket to see if you won the $1 million prize!

For the California tickets, prize payout amounts are pari-mutuel and determined by sales and the number of winners. The two lucky winners will each receive $397,355 before taxes.

The first winning ticket in California was purchased at Best Buy Liquor, located at 1813 Academy Ave. in Sanger. The second winning ticket sold in California was purchased at Rotten Robbie, located at 7001 CA-116 in Forestville.

Enjoy playing the Ohio Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
