For those Louisiana Lottery players that happened to purchase a Powerball ticket back in October 2023, it’s time to double-check those tickets!

The Louisiana Lottery announced that no one has stepped forward to claim a $50,000 prize that was won on the October 9, 2023, Powerball drawing. The winning ticket, which was purchased at Piggly Wiggly on Highway 182 in Opelousas, will expire if it isn’t claimed by April 6, 2024.

Claiming prizes for the Louisiana Lottery

In Louisiana, winners of the lottery’s draw-style games, like Powerball, must claim their prize within 180 days of the drawing. Since this particular drawing took place on October 9, 2023, the winner has until April 6, 2024, to claim.

The holder of this winning ticket has until 5 p.m. CT on April 6 to claim their prize, depending on the lottery’s hours of operation. In this instance, April 6 does fall on the weekend, so the winner must claim their prize by close of business on Friday, April 5.

Powerball prizes greater than $5,000 must be claimed at one of the lottery’s five regional offices located throughout the state of Louisiana or at lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge. To claim, the winner just needs to present the original printed ticket.

If the winner doesn’t claim the $50,000 before the redemption deadline, that money is deposited into the Lottery’s unclaimed prize fund, which is returned to players in the form of increased payouts or instant-win games and player promotions.

The winning $50,000 Powerball ticket

For this particular winning Powerball ticket in Louisiana, the player matched four of the five main numbers drawn and the Powerball number to win $50,000. The Powerball drawing was held on October 9, 2023, and the winning numbers that night were 16, 34, 46, 55, and 67, and the Powerball number was 14.

“We look forward to the winner coming forward to claim this prize. In the meantime, the individual should treat the ticket as cash,” said Lottery President Rose Hudson in a press release. “It is also a good idea to sign the back of the ticket for security purposes.”

Unclaimed prizes in Louisiana

The Louisiana Lottery currently has four unclaimed prizes of $5,000 or more for their draw-style and Fast Play games. Besides the $50,000 unclaimed Powerball prize mentioned above, the other three unclaimed prizes are:

  • $50,000 Powerball prize from the November 11, 2023, drawing that expires on May 9, 2024. The winning white-ball numbers that night were 1, 12, 14, 24, and 57, and the Powerball number was 7. The winning ticket was purchased at Speedy Mart at 12532 South Harrells Ferry Road in Baton Rouge.
  • $50,000 Powerball prize from the January 20, 2024, drawing that expires on July 18, 2024. The winning white-ball numbers that night were 16, 31, 34, 47, and 65, and the Powerball number was 10. The winning ticket was purchased at Diaz Market Hwy. 59 & Lonesome at 2758 Highway 59 in Mandeville.
