Another case of employees at a gas station thinking they can get away with stealing lottery tickets, but they failed, like the rest of the people that have tried!

The latest case

This newest case took place in Beulaville, North Carolina, and was discovered after the local police were notified of a report of two employees reportedly stealing lottery tickets from the business.

On August 28, the management of Speedy Mart, located at 113 E. Main Street in Beulaville, filed a report with the Beulaville Police Department on the two employees.

The police started an investigation, which led them to discover that between August 21 and August 27, Speedy Mart employees Shameka Jones and Maryann Howard had stolen about 104 lottery tickets from the business.

According to authorities, the combined value of the stolen lottery tickets was around $3,450. The suspects also cashed in the winning tickets among them, which totaled $1,910.

Arrests have been made

The Beulaville Police Department announced that Jones was arrested on September 6 and charged with:

  • Five counts of embezzlement
  • Five counts of larceny by employee
  • Five counts of conspiracy to commit a felony
  • Five counts of obtaining property by false pretense

Jones was taken to the Duplin County Magistrate's Office, where she was served and then released on a $20,000 unsecured bond.

Howard was arrested on the same day and charged with:

  • Five counts of conspiracy to commit a felony
  • One count of embezzlement
  • One count of larceny by employee
  • One count of obtaining property by false pretense

Authorities also took Howard to the Duplin Magistrate's Office, where she was served and released on a $10,000 secured bond.

No details were given on when they were to appear in court again.

Double Draw promotion pays off

For the month of September, the North Carolina Lottery is offering Pick 3 players the chance for a second chance at winning that night. From September 1-30, Pick 3 players could get two chances to win during the evening drawing.

Before the start of every Pick 3 evening drawing, lottery officials will select a single ball from the Double Draw Ball Machine. The machine starts out with six white balls and one yellow ball. Each night the yellow ball is not drawn they take one of the white balls out until the yellow ball is drawn.

When the yellow ball is drawn, officials will conduct two Pick 3 drawings that evening, giving players two chances of winning that evening.

The Yellow Ball was drawn during Saturday night's Pick 3 drawing, the first time for this promotion. Here are the Double Draw results:

  • First drawing: 5-8-0 with Fireball of 1. This winning number had 1,688 that matched it, winning a total of $156,326 in prizes.
  • Second drawing: 9-3-9 with Fireball of 8. This winning number had 666 tickets that matched it, winning a total of $115,529 in prizes.

Now that the Yellow Ball was drawn, the Double Draw machine reset back to six white balls and one yellow for Sunday night's drawing.

Enjoy playing the North Carolina Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
