Sometimes, a little help from a store clerk is all it takes to turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary one. That's what happened to two lucky Missouri Lottery players, both of whom got a boost from enthusiastic clerks during their visits to local stores.

One lucky customer's stop at a gas station in St. Louis turned into a $2 million win after the clerk picked out the winning scratch-off ticket. Meanwhile, a store clerk's excited reaction helped convince a Platte County player that he'd just won a $327,000 jackpot. Whether it was picking the right ticket or sharing the good news, these clerks played a big role in starting 2025 on the right path for these lucky winners.

Picking the big winner

One lucky player recently made a stop for gas at the QuikTrip, located at 1615 S. Kingshighway Blvd. in St. Louis. During that stop, he happened to ask the clerk to pick any scratcher game for him to buy. The worker picked a good one, a 200X The Cash ticket, and it would soon change the player's life.

The lucky man told lottery officials, “I asked the clerk for any $20 ticket, and this was the one that was picked.”

He didn't waste much time in finding out that he just purchased a $2 million winner, as he scraped the ticket in the store's parking lot. He said:

I couldn't believe it! I looked at it at least 30 times to make sure it was real!

It was definitely real and he recently made his way to the Missouri Lottery's St. Louis regional office to claim his winnings, which he didn't mention what his plans were with the money.

The clerk was too excited to speak

Sometimes you get so overwhelmed with excitement that you just can't speak. That is what happened to a store clerk in Platte County when a player had them scan their Show Me Cash ticket and it was a jackpot winner.

The lucky winner took his ticket to the store and had the clerk scan it to see if it was a winner. He told lottery officials:

It took (the store clerk) a few minutes to be able to tell me what was going on. He couldn't talk, he was so excited. He just kept saying, 'You won! You won! You won!' And I kept saying, 'What did I win?' because I didn't even know what the jackpot was.

It turns out the lucky man matched all five of the winning numbers from the December 18, 2024, Show Me Cash drawing to win the $327,000 jackpot that night. The winning numbers for that draw were 2, 19, 22, 28, and 33. The winning ticket was purchased at Phillips 66, located at 6250 N.W. Barry Road in Kansas City.

After finally determining he had won the jackpot, the man then had to share the good news with his son. However, it took some convincing for his son to believe him.

“He didn't believe me,” the winner joked. “He said, 'You've never won anything in your life,' and it took a while to convince him.”

The son eventually believed him, and the man recently made his way to the Missouri Lottery Headquarters to claim his prize. He said he doesn't have any plans right now for the money, but he joked that he would “probably buy a few more lottery tickets.”

The lucky winner did add, “It was an extra nice Christmas. I'll keep plugging down the road and consider it a lucky windfall and carry through the rest of my retirement years.”

Enjoy playing the Missouri Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
