Kelly Renner of Chesaning, Saginaw County, certainly started her New Year in a positive way. The Michigan Lottery player recently claimed the $500,000 prize money she won playing the Holiday Wishes instant-win game.

In an interview with the Michigan Lottery, Kelly said:

I only play lottery instant games around Christmastime. When I bought the ticket, I thought: “I hope this is a holiday wish! It would be so wonderful to win!”

The 59-year-old lottery player purchased her ticket from Lara's Market, located at 1310 West Brady Street in Chesaning. She saved the ticket until New Year's Eve, and when she scratched it off, she initially thought she'd won $5,000. When she later showed the ticket to her brother-in-law, she was in for an even bigger surprise. He discovered that she'd actually won a $500,000 prize.

Kelly said:

Winning is a dream come true for me. I have had a really tough year, and this is such a relief. I can take care of my kids and help my sister out a little, and that is a wonderful feeling.
