Talk about a Mother's Day gift that keeps on giving! A Detroit woman, Tamika Boyd, and her mom are celebrating a win after playing Lucky for Life together.
Their lucky ticket matched the five white balls drawn on April 17th, securing them a sweet $25,000 a year for life!
Boyd, 38, purchased the winning ticket online.
She said:
My mom plays Lucky for Life, and I decided to add the Michigan Lottery app to my phone so I could play, too. As we were picking our numbers, my mom said: 'My momma needs to send us a blessing.' That's when I added her birthday to my numbers. When I saw what I had won, I couldn't believe it!
Claiming their prize at the Michigan Lottery Headquarters, Boyd opted for the lump sum payment of $390,000 instead of annual payments. Her winning plans include a special Mother's Day treat – a trip to Chicago with her mom! The rest of the windfall will be saved for a secure future.
This win adds to Michigan's lucky streak in 2024. Eight players have already claimed the coveted $25,000-a-year-for-life prize playing Lucky for Life:
- A Flushing woman who snagged the prize with a ticket purchased on February 20th at Borders Corner Store in Mount Pleasant.
- An Escanaba woman who played online and won big on March 12th.
- A Redford Township woman celebrated after buying her winning ticket at the Value Center Market in Livonia on March 23rd.
- Two online players who triumphed on March 25th and April 17th.
- Another lucky Livonia resident who scored with a ticket from Merriman Drugs on March 26th.
- A Macomb County man who recently claimed his prize after winning on April 19th at the Hub Sports Bistro.
- The winning streak continued on April 29th with a ticket bought at Morning Fresh Bakery in Adrian.
Feeling lucky? Here's how to play
For only $2 per play, Lucky for Life offers a chance to win prizes ranging from a few bucks to a life-changing sum. Match all five winning numbers (between 1 and 48) and the Lucky Ball (between 1 and 18) to land the top prize of $1,000 a day for life. Matching all five white balls without the Lucky Ball still wins you a cool $25,000 a year for life. Drawings happen daily at 10:38 pm, and tickets can be purchased at lottery retailers or online.
Supporting Michigan schools
Nearly every dollar spent on lottery tickets goes back to the state, primarily benefiting public education. In 2023 alone, the Lottery contributed over $1.3 billion to Michigan's schools, marking its fifth year exceeding the billion-dollar mark. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has poured more than $28 billion into supporting public education in the state.
