It was all smiles and laughter for a group of friends from Ball, Louisiana, last week as they traveled to the lottery headquarters to claim their $1 million Powerball win from the March 30 drawing.

The group, headed by Janice Tullos, included Mark Howard, Rachel Wooten, Yuri Hester, Cynthia Abbarno, and Debbie Van Dyke. They received a check for $717,500 after tax withholdings.

The friends purchased the ticket from Albertsons, located on South Macarthur Drive in Alexandria. It matched all of the white ball numbers but missed the Powerball number. The winning numbers in the March 30 drawing were 12, 13, 33, 50, 52, and Powerball number 23.

Latest Powerball drawing

There were no winners for the $67 million jackpot in the Powerball drawing on Monday 15, April. This means that the jackpot has rolled over again and has now reached $78 million. No players won prizes of $2 million by matching 5 + Power Play, nor were there any $1 million winners. Seven lucky winners matched four white balls plus the Powerball. Five of them won $50,000, and two of them who added Power Play won $150,000.

The next Powerball drawing will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 10 p.m. Eastern time. The current $78 million jackpot has a cash value of $36.5 million.

Fun facts about Powerball

Here are some fun facts about this favorite lottery game that you might not know:

  • Most jackpot wins: Indiana takes the prize for having the most Powerball jackpot winners. Since its launch in 1992, the Indiana Lottery has had 39 jackpot winners. The last Powerball jackpot prize won in the Hoosier state was in 2017.
  • Fewest jackpot wins: Players in some states are not so lucky. A Powerball jackpot has never been won in Maine, Mississippi, North Dakota, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Wyoming.
  • Most popular number: The winning number to pop up more times than any other in Powerball drawings is 61. This number has been a winner 90 times.
  • Beating the odds: The odds of winning any of the Powerball prizes is around 1 in 24.9. However, the odds of winning a Powerball jackpot is 1 in 292.2 million.
  • Jackpot rollovers: Powerball players know only too well that if a jackpot is not won, it rolls over until there is a winner, increasing each time. What you may not know is that there is no limit to how many times a jackpot can roll over, which is why there have been Powerball jackpots in the billions.

How the lottery helps Louisiana

The Louisiana Lottery donates 35 cents out of every dollar to support public education. Since its launch in 1991, the lottery has donated more than $4.6 billion to K-12 education throughout the state. The Bayou State also donates $500,000 each year to support problem gambling.
