A Florida Lottery player turned their $3 Mega Millions lottery ticket into a huge $3 million win thanks to the Megaplier option!

The big win

The Florida Lottery announced that 62-year-old Jose Duran of West Palm Beach recently claimed his $3 million prize he won during the April 11, 2023, Mega Millions drawing. Duran recently claimed his winnings at the West Palm Beach District Office.

The winning white ball numbers for that April 11, 2023, drawing were 31, 35, 53, 54, and 55, and the Mega Ball was 24. The Megaplier for that drawing was 3X, which means any non-jackpot-winning prize would be multiplied by three.

Duran happened to match all five of the white ball numbers, but didn’t match the Mega Ball to win $1 million. However, he chose the Megaplier option and he was able to triple his winnings and take home the $3 million prize!

Lucky lottery retailer

Duran happened to purchase the winning Quick Pick ticket from Supermercados El Bodegon, located at 4704 Forest Hill Boulevard in West Palm Beach.

For selling the winning ticket, the lucky lottery retailer received a $5,000 bonus commission from the state lottery.

The next Mega Millions drawing will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11:00 p.m. ET, and the estimated jackpot is worth $47 million. To be eligible for this drawing, tickets must be purchased in Florida by 10:00 p.m. ET.

Where does the Florida Lottery revenue go?

The revenue from the Florida Lottery not only goes to pay these prize winners and commissions to the lottery retailers, but the state also transfers money to education. The Florida Lottery reinvests 99% of the revenue earned each year.

This money is used to help enhance education and has sent more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.

Since 1988, the Florida Lottery games have also paid out more than $95.7 billion in prize money and made more than 4,000 people millionaires.

$47 billion to education

On September 20, the Florida Lottery announced they have surpassed $47 billion in contributions to education since its start in 1988. Lottery officials said this latest milestone marks their consistent dedication to enhancing educational opportunities across the state.

“We are incredibly proud to reach this $47 billion milestone,” said John F. Davis, Secretary of the Florida Lottery. “This achievement highlights our ongoing commitment to enriching the educational experience for students throughout Florida. Every dollar contributed helps to build a brighter future for our youth, supporting their dreams and educational aspirations.”

The Lottery’s mission is to alleviate financial barriers to higher education. They do this by collaborating with various programs and organizations that share the same commitment to education.

These contributions from the Florida Lottery support a range of educational initiatives, which includes state colleges and universities, K-12 programs, the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, and vocation and technical schools.

Since its inception, there has been over $8 billion allocated to Bright Futures, which has enabled almost 1 million students to pursue post-secondary education and training.

Enjoy playing the Florida Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
