It was double the fun for one lucky Kentucky Lottery player, as their Powerball Double Play ticket won them $500,000 during Saturday night's drawing.

Big Double Play win

During the Powerball Double Play drawing on Saturday, October 12, one lucky ticket purchased in Corbin matched all five of the winning white ball numbers to win the $500,000 prize for that game.

For those unfamiliar, the Double Play drawing takes place right after the regular Powerball drawing. The winning white ball numbers for that Double Play drawing on October 12 were 18, 22, 32, 41, and 49, and the Powerball number was 24.

The winning ticket, which was purchased at the Pilot Travel Center, located at 249 West Cumberland Gap Parkway in Corbin, matched all five of the winning white balls to win the game's $500,000 prize.

New Powerball feature

The Double Play feature was added to the Powerball game in Kentucky in 2023. Players could start purchasing this new feature at lottery retailers in November 2023. It then became available for purchase online earlier this year.

Kentucky Lottery President and CEO, Mary Harville, said:

The Kentucky Lottery is always looking for new and exciting ways to engage our loyal players. Adding Double Play as an option to Powerball has really paid off for our players, with Kentucky retailers now selling two high-tier winning Powerball Double Play tickets less than a year since we added this feature.

For the Double Play feature, it is an add-on option for Powerball players. For an additional $1 wager, players can choose the Double Play option. This enters the player's same set of numbers in both the regular Powerball drawing and the Double Play drawing.

Double Play paying off for Kentucky Lottery players

While this $500,000 win is huge, the Kentucky Lottery has already been making history when it comes to the Double Play feature.

In June 2024, Kentucky became just the third state to sell a $10 million top-tier Powerball Double Play ticket since the feature was added to the game in 2001.

It took a little while, but the lucky Kentucky resident, who chose to remain anonymous, came forward in August to claim their $10 million prize.

That $10 million winning ticket was purchased at Circle K, located off Hwy. 22 in Crestwood. For selling the winning ticket, the lucky lottery retailer received a $100,000 bonus check from the state lottery.

Claiming your prize

If you happen to be the lucky holder of this winning Double Play ticket, lottery officials advise you to sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe, secure location. Winners have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

In Kentucky, winners must claim their prize at lottery headquarters, located at 1011 W. Main St. in Louisville. Before heading to lottery headquarters, players should contact the lottery at 1-877-789-4532 to make an appointment to claim their winnings.

While there was a $500,000 Double Play winner in Kentucky, there was no Powerball jackpot winner after Saturday night’s drawing. That means the current estimated jackpot is at $388 million for tonight's drawing, Monday, October 14, 2024.

Enjoy playing the Kentucky Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
