After an eight-year dry spell, the Georgia Lottery happily announced they had a Powerball jackpot winner after last night's drawing, bringing home the biggest lottery prize ever for the state!

What were the winning Powerball numbers?

The Powerball drawing took place on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, and the winning white ball numbers were 2, 15, 27, 29, and 39, and the Powerball number was 20 with a Power Play of 2X.

The estimated jackpot for the drawing was $478 million, with a cash option of $230.6 million. The odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in 292.2 million.

Record-breaking jackpot

One lucky ticket in Georgia beat those odds to win the $478 million jackpot. According to Georgia Lottery officials, the winning ticket was purchased at Quick Mart, located at 2155 Buford Dam Road in Buford.

This win happened to be the first time the top prize in Powerball has been won in Georgia since 2016. Those winners were William and Heather Ten Broeke, who won $246 million. They opted for the cash option and took home about $165 million after taxes.

Besides snapping the eight-year dry spell for Powerball jackpot winners in Georgia, it also happened to break the state record for lottery prizes.

The $478 million prize is the biggest in state history. The previous state record went to a Mega Millions winner from Stone Mountain, who claimed half of a $648 million jackpot in December 2013. That winner also opted for the cash option, winning $173 million before taxes.

Near misses in Pennsylvania and Texas

In addition to the jackpot-winning ticket sold in Georgia, there were also two second-tier prizes won during last night's drawing.

While there were no tickets that won $2 million with the Match 5 + Power Play, there were two tickets that matched the five winning white ball numbers to win $1 million each. Those winning tickets were purchased in Pennsylvania and Texas.

Other Powerball winners

In addition to the big wins mentioned above, there were also other winning tickets sold for the night, which include:

  • 13 tickets matched 4 + Powerball to win $50,000
  • 4 tickets matched 4 + Powerball with Power Play to win $100,000
  • 418 tickets matched 4 to win $100
  • 128 tickets matched 4 with Power Play to win $200
  • 847 tickets matched 3 + Powerball to win $100
  • 242 tickets matched 3 + Powerball with Power Play to win $200
  • 23,501 tickets matched 3 to win $7
  • 7,313 tickets matched 3 with Power Play to win $14
  • 17,232 tickets matched 2 + Powerball to win $7
  • 5,219 tickets matched 2 + Powerball with Power Play to win $14
  • 129,283 tickets matched 1 + Powerball to win $4
  • 38,823 tickets matched 1 + Powerball with Power Play to win $8
  • 303,296 tickets matched the Powerball only to win $4
  • 89,932 tickets matched the Powerball only with Power Play to win $8

End of current jackpot run

With this Powerball jackpot win in Buford, the current jackpot streak comes to an end. The last Powerball jackpot win took place on August 19, 2024.

The previous jackpot won was worth $44.3 million, and one lucky ticket in California matched all six of the winning numbers to claim the jackpot.

The next Powerball drawing takes place on Saturday, October 26, at 10:59 p.m. ET. The jackpot resets to its starting point of $20 million.
