You have to be upset when you are just one number away from winning $91 million, right? But that anger has to subside when you learn you still are walking away with a $1 million prize!

Big Powerball win in Phoenix

The lucky winner from Phoenix, identified as 52-year-old Joyce D., purchased the $2 Powerball ticket on her phone using the Jackpocket app ahead of the July 20 drawing.

The winning white ball numbers for that July 20 drawing were 18, 25, 31, 40, and 57, and the Powerball number was 4.

Joyce purchased a Quick Pick ticket and managed to match all five of the white balls, but she missed out on matching the Powerball to win the jackpot. While the Powerball was 4, Joyce had 20 on her ticket, coming up just short of the big win. However, a $1 million win is still a huge win!

Joyce told Jackpocket that she couldn't even believe she won and that it was real until she finally held the winning ticket in her hand.

The Jackpocket app launched in Arizona in January 2023 and Joyce is now the biggest Arizona Lottery winner to date that has used the app to purchase their tickets.

The Powerball jackpot

The jackpot for Powerball was recently won on Monday, August 12, when a lucky player in Pennsylvania won the $213.8 million jackpot. This was the sixth jackpot win of the year so far for lucky Powerball players.

The next Powerball drawing takes place tonight, August 19, and the estimated jackpot is $44 million, with a cash value of $21.7 million.

More recent Arizona Lottery winners

While Joyce is celebrating her big win, there were some other lucky Arizona Lottery players out there winning some big prizes.

This last week, Arizona saw five big winners claim prizes from scratchers. One winner took home $50,000 playing It's All Cash, and another won $50,000 playing Catan. There were also two $100,000 winners on the week. Both lucky players won their big prize by playing the Triple Red 7's scratcher game.

The final big winner got even more than Joyce with her Powerball win. One lucky player in Kingman won the top prize of $5 million playing the scratcher Set For Life.

After announcing the lucky Kingman player won that top prize in Set For Life, they said there are still three top prizes remaining for that ticket.

Mega Millions continues to grow also

While there was no winner in Powerball this past weekend, and the jackpot grew to $44 million for tonight's drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot continues to grow also.

There was no jackpot winner for the Friday, August 16, drawing, which means the jackpot rose to $498 million (cash value option of $245.3 million) for the next drawing, which is held on Tuesday, August 20.

With a jackpot that size, if you haven't bought your tickets yet, you may want to get them now!

Enjoy playing the Arizona Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
