Michigan Lottery player Lisa Cecil is celebrating a life-changing win after matching five white balls in the June 12 Powerball drawing.

The 66-year-old Grand Rapids resident woke up her entire family in disbelief after discovering she'd won a cool $1 million!

Cecil, a regular Powerball player, habitually checks her numbers online after the drawings. One night, after midnight, she reviewed her ticket and noticed three matching numbers, then four. Excitement built as she thought:

I think I just won some money!

When the fifth number fell into place, disbelief washed over her.

Unable to contain her joy, Cecil roused her household with the announcement:

I woke everyone in our house up saying: “I think I just won $1 million!” Once my family looked the ticket over and confirmed what I was seeing, I knew it was real.

The winning ticket was sold at the Family Fare on Northland Drive (5241 Northland Dr NE, Grand Rapids).

Claiming her prize at the Michigan Lottery headquarters, Cecil revealed plans to pay off her home and share her windfall with loved ones.

She said:

I've been playing the lottery for a long time, and I never dreamed I would win a prize like this! It's unbelievable.

June Powerball winners

While Lisa Cecil's win is exciting, it's not the only recent Powerball jackpot to make headlines in Michigan.

Earlier this year, in March, an Allen Park man named Benjamin Pauline won $500,000 from the Powerball Double Play drawing.

And, of course, who can forget "The Breakfast Club," the lucky lottery club that snagged a staggering $842.4 million jackpot back in January!

Want to try your luck at Powerball?

Powerball tickets cost $2 each and can be purchased at Michigan Lottery retailers across the state or online at the Michigan Lottery website.

For an extra $1, you can add the Power Play option, potentially multiplying non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times, reaching a maximum of $2 million. Double Play can also be added for another $1, giving you a second chance to win up to $10 million in a separate nightly drawing.

Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.

Did you know?

Nearly every dollar spent on lottery tickets goes back to the state! Around 97 cents of every dollar contributes to public education through the state School Aid Fund. The Michigan Lottery has provided over $1.3 billion to Michigan's public schools in the 2023 fiscal year alone, bringing their total contribution to public education to over $28 billion since 1972.
