Lottery jackpots are starting to heat up again, as players have over $650 million reasons to check this weekend’s drawings. After their big jackpot wins recently, Powerball and Mega Millions have climbed to a combined $660 million heading into the weekend. And while those national games will grab most of the attention, players in California have another sizable jackpot waiting for them. SuperLotto Plus has quietly grown to $58 million, putting three major jackpots on the board this weekend. Here's what players need to know.
Powerball reaches $360 million
Powerball currently leads the way with an estimated $360 million jackpot. The prize has been growing since a player in Illinois won the $1.04 billion jackpot on August 12. The jackpot then reset to $20 million, but weeks without another grand-prize winner have pushed it back up to $360 million.
This jackpot is available as an annuity, with payments made over 30 years. However, a cash option is also available for $149.8 million before taxes.
The next Powerball drawing will take place on Saturday, September 26. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
Mega Millions climbs to $300 million
Mega Millions isn’t that far behind. Its jackpot has reached an estimated $300 million for its next drawing, which takes place on Tuesday, September 29. Like Powerball, the game is rebuilding after producing a major winner this summer.
One lucky ticket purchased in Florida hit the $800 million jackpot in the July 28 drawing. The winner came forward later to claim the prize after buying the lucky Quick Pick ticket at a Wawa in Bradenton.
Now, the jackpot has climbed back up to $300 million, with a cash option of $124.1 million available. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290.47 million.
California is also offering a big jackpot
The big jackpots aren’t just exclusive to the multi-state games. California’s SuperLotto Plus jackpot has grown to an estimated $58 million, giving players in the Golden State another chance to chase an eight-figure prize this weekend.
SuperLotto Plus is exclusive to California, and tickets cost $1 per play. The next drawing takes place on Saturday, September 26.
The odds of matching all six numbers and winning the SuperLotto Plus jackpot are 1 in 41.42 million.
Arkansas LOTTO continues jackpot run
In Arkansas, the jackpot isn’t as big as the others mentioned above, but it’s a historic run for Arkansas Lottery players.
LOTTO, the in-state draw game, has grown to $2.65 million for this Saturday. This happens to be the second-largest jackpot in the game’s history.
It happened to pass that threshold back in August, but it continues to grow with no tickets matching all the winning numbers yet. It does have a climb to make still to take over the top spot, as the largest LOTTO jackpot ever won in the state was $5.12 million.
With Powerball and Mega Millions climbing again and these in-state games offering big jackpots in their own right, lottery players have plenty to keep an eye on this weekend.
Enjoy playing the lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
