Mount Sidney resident Cody Smith was feeling lucky earlier this week. He'd cashed in a couple of winning Virginia Lottery tickets and was relaxing at his dad's house when he scratched off a Mega Money Multiplier instant-win ticket. What he was not expecting was to win the game's $500,000 top prize.

When he scratched off all his numbers and saw that he'd won the jackpot prize, his heart was pounding, and he couldn't believe his eyes.

In an interview with Virginia Lottery officials, he later said:

I kind of freaked out. At first, I couldn't believe it.

As he claimed his prize, he added.

It's crazy! It feels unreal.

Cody purchased his winning ticket from the 7-Eleven on Craig Shop Road in Penn Laird. His $500,000 was the third and final jackpot prize for this series of the Mega Money Multiplier (game #2245), so the game is now closed. The odds of winning the top prize were 1 in 816,000.
