A tradition between a husband and wife became a gift from beyond, as this Virginia man honored his late wife with a $100,000 win in the Virginia Lottery.

The couple's tradition

Larry Munden, Sr., has been playing Virginia Lottery games since it started. He and his late wife used to sit together in their garage and play them for fun.

His wife was a huge fan of bingo, so Larry decided to buy a Big Money Bingo scratcher ticket and then scratched it on his wedding anniversary. You have to think his wife was looking down on him, as the Chesapeake man soon found out he had won $100,000 on the ticket, the game's top prize!

Overcome with emotion

After the big win, Munden told lottery officials that he was overcome with emotion. He said his wife passed away just last year, so it was his first anniversary without her.

He said:

I carried it [the ticket] out to the cemetery and showed it to her.

With his winnings, he said he plans on giving half to his daughter and son-in-law and then will keep playing bingo in honor of his late wife.

Munden, who is retired, bought the winning ticket at the Food Lion, located at 1245 Cedar Road in Chesapeake.

As for the Big Money Bingo tickets, this was the fourth and final top prize claimed in the game, which means it will be closed. The policy for the Virginia Lottery is to end scratcher games after the final top prize is claimed. The chances of winning the top prize in this game were 1 in 816,000. The odds of winning any prize in the game were 1 in 3.53.

Now go clean your bed!

Another lucky Virginia Lottery player won $100,000 recently — after scratching the winning ticket in her bed! Doesn't she know all those flakes and dust will get in her bed?

Anyway, Tamika McGill bought two Ca$h Corners Crossword tickets from M&T Market, located at 2711 Kecoughtan Road in Hampton. However, she waited until she got home and was snuggled in bed before scratching the tickets!

She had no luck on the first ticket, but then she scratched the second one and realized she had just won $100,000.

She recently made her way to lottery headquarters and told officials:

I had to do a triple-double-take! I was sleepy, but I was tossing and turning all night.

McGill works for a moving company, and she told lottery officials she plans on using her winnings to buy a car and give it to her children. She said:

I'm just so shocked. This is my first time ever winning this much!

Ca$h Corners Crossword is one of dozens of scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery. The game features prizes ranging from $5 up to the top prize, which McGill won, of $100,000.

This was the third top prize claimed in the game, which means there are three more top prizes remaining to be claimed. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1.22 million. The chances of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 4.01.

Enjoy playing the Virginia Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
