The Sol Living Trust of Sugar Land, Texas, has secured its place in Texas Lottery history.

They claimed the massive $810 million jackpot prize from the Mega Millions drawing held on September 10, 2024. This marks the seventh-largest prize in Mega Millions history. After opting for the cash option, the trust received a staggering $409,297,624 before taxes – the biggest single-player payout ever from the Texas Lottery. Texas Lottery prize winners who win $1 million or more can choose to remain anonymous, thanks to a law passed in 2019.

The winning ticket, a Quick Pick with all the winning numbers (1-2-16-24-66, Mega Ball 6), was purchased at Murphy USA 8848 in Sugar Land. The lucky retailer received a $1 million bonus for selling the jackpot ticket!

This win marks the 15th Mega Millions jackpot for Texas and the first since October 6, 2023. Back then, the Blue Yucca Trust claimed a $360 million prize on a ticket purchased in San Angelo. In August 2007, SB ALCHEMY HOLDINGS, LTD claimed the $330 million Mega Millions prize, marking another instance of a trust claiming a large lottery jackpot. Texas joined the Mega Millions game in 2003 and had its first winner in 2004, with Ut Van Nguyen of Carrollton taking home the $101 million jackpot.

Beyond the jackpot itself, over 175,000 Mega Millions tickets in Texas, including those with the Megaplier option, won prizes ranging from $2 to $40,000.

Ryan Mindell, executive director of the Texas Lottery, said:

We absolutely love when Texas Lottery players win big, and it's a tremendous honor to congratulate our state's largest-ever jackpot winner. This jackpot win shows that any Texas Lottery ticket could lead to an exciting prize, and if you're playing, the next one could be yours.

How to play Mega Millions

Playing Mega Millions is simple. Choose five numbers from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. Matching all six numbers wins the jackpot, but even partial matches can lead to smaller prizes. Currently, the starting jackpot is $20 million, with a second-tier prize of $1 million for matching five white balls.

For an extra dollar per play, you can add the Megaplier option. This can multiply your non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four, or even five times, potentially reaching $5 million. Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 PM CT.
