Over the weekend, Pick 3 drawings in Florida, Illinois, and Michigan delivered winning combinations of 9-9-9, 8-8-8, and 6-6-6, which brought three times the excitement. Thousands of fortunate players in all three states received payouts totaling over $7 million as a result of these uncommon repeated combinations.

It's understandable why gamblers keep a lookout for bold-numbered wagers that pay off when they see patterns like these. Is it a coincidence, a tactic, or something else?

Michigan kicked things off

The Michigan Lottery kicked things off on a high note with their evening Daily 3 drawing on Saturday, July 26, 2025. For that drawing, the winning combination came up 6-6-6.

While 6-6-6 is considered an unlucky number and associated with the devil, it brought good luck to over 4,500 players. The total amount of prizes awarded for this rare winning combination was $1.87 million.

The majority of the winners — 2,953 — won on a $1 bet, with the payout being $500 for each winning ticket. Next up were $0.50 bets, which had 1,338 winning tickets, each taking home $250.

Illinois keeps it going

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, the Illinois Lottery kept the triple-digit wins going with their evening Pick 3 drawing. The winning combination for that drawing was 8-8-8 with a Fireball of 4

For this winning combination, there were over 4,900 winning tickets sold in the Prairie State. Those winning tickets happened to accumulate $1.22 million in prizes.

Despite being in different states and having different winning combinations, there were definitely a similar number of winners in both states.

Florida finished it strong

Meanwhile, the Florida Lottery players were also enjoying a "trips" win. For their evening Pick 3 drawing on Sunday, July 27, 2025, the winning combination was 9-9-9 with a Fireball of 3.

This winning combination in Florida brought on over 9,500 winning tickets. Those tickets combined for over $4.19 million in prizes handed out.

Why are triple-digit combinations so popular?

Triple-digit numbers, like 9-9-9, 8-8-8, and 6-6-6, are known as “triples” in Pick 3 lottery games, and they're among the most popular and eye-catching combinations players choose. Why are they so popular?

Their appeal comes from simplicity, symmetry, and a sense of rarity that makes players feel lucky when they hit. Because there are only 10 possible triple-digit combos (000 through 999), many players view them as special “pattern plays” and will often bet on them regularly.

When one lands, it usually results in a high number of winners and big payouts, making triple draws especially exciting and memorable for lottery fans.

That's part of what makes weekends like this so special — when triples strike across multiple states, it creates a shared celebration among lottery players. Whether it's the thrill of spotting a lucky pattern or the hope of joining the winners' circle, triples never fail to stir excitement.

After all, when 9-9-9, 8-8-8, and 6-6-6 hit in one weekend, it's hard not to believe in a little lottery magic.

Enjoy playing the lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
