If you’re a Powerball power player, you’ll be interested to hear that Mississippi is the latest state to add Double Play to their Powerball game. The first Double Play tickets will go on sale on Sunday 5th November.

The first drawing will be held on Monday 6th November. The Double Play addition gives players another opportunity to win in a second drawing with a top cash prize of $10 million.

Powerball Double Play is also available in the following states:

  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Idaho
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • Mississippi
  • Missouri
  • Montana
  • Nebraska
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • Puerto Rico
  • South Carolina
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee
  • Washington

Double Play drawings are held after each Powerball drawing on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays between 11:25 and 11:35 p.m. ET.

How to play Powerball Double Play

For just $1 per play, you can add the Double Play feature to your Powerball ticket. For the Double Play draw, you will play the same set of numbers that you selected for the main Powerball drawing. If Double Play is available in your state, playing is very easy. Just choose the Double Play option on your Powerball play slip to enter into the second draw. You cannot play Double Play as a stand-alone lottery game; it is an addition to Powerball. Double Play entries don’t include Power Play.

The numbers you choose on your Powerball ticket are also entered into the Double Play drawing. This will take place on the same night, after the Powerball drawing. Double Play works just like the main Powerball draw. Five random numbers between 1 and 69 and a random Powerball number between 1 and 26 are drawn.

Double Play prizes

If you’re already familiar with the main Powerball game, you’ll see that the prize structure for Double Play is the same. In Double Play, you have nine different ways to win a prize. How much you win will depend on how many numbers you match. You’ll notice that six of the nine prize levels are worth more than the equivalent Powerball prizes. For example, if you match one number and the Powerball in Double Play, you win $10 compared to $4 in the main Powerball draw.

The jackpot prize in Double Play is $10 million. You can win this prize by matching all five main numbers and the Powerball. Every Double Play drawing will have the same jackpot cash prize. If more than one player hits the jackpot, the prize will be split equally between them. The odds of winning a prize are the same in both Powerball and Double Play.

The table below shows the Double Play prizes:

Powerball Double Play Prizes

Match Prize Odds
5 numbers + Powerball $10,000,000 1 in 292,201,338
5 numbers $500,000 1 in 11,688,053.52
4 numbers + Powerball $50,000 1 in 913,129.18
4 numbers $500 1 in 36,525.17
3 numbers + Powerball $500 1 in 14,494.11
3 numbers $20 1 in 579.76
2 numbers + Powerball $20 1 in 701.33
1 number + Powerball $10 1 in 91.98
Powerball $7 1 in 38.32

Players should note that the Power Play add-on does not apply to Double Play drawings prizes. Unlike the regular Powerball jackpot, the $10 million Double Play jackpot can only be claimed as a cash prize.

Each Double Play drawing pays out thousands of prizes. There have already been several lucky jackpot winners. However, the very first time that a player matched all the numbers to win the Double Play jackpot, the prize was never claimed. The ticket was sold in Maryland, and it became the largest lottery prize in the Old Line State to go unclaimed.

To make sure you don’t miss out on your prize, check your numbers against the winning Powerball Double Play draws by using the Lottery USA Powerball Number Checker.
