Routines can come in handy, but this New York Lottery player's daily routine helped lead cops to a gruesome discovery recently.

No-show worries gas station clerk

Kevin Works, 62, had a daily routine of making his way to a local gas station and buying his lottery tickets. This is something many lottery players do, but this routine helped guide police to a grim discovery.

On Monday, July 15, 2024, Works didn't show up at the gas station to purchase his lottery tickets. The gas station clerk was concerned since it's the normal routine for Works. The clerk decided to call 911 to report it, according to the Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

The grim discovery

After receiving the 911 call, officers were dispatched to Seneca Garden Apartments in Syracuse to do a wellness check on Works.

Once at the scene, police said they found Works, who had been badly cut, dead inside the apartment.

Police determined that 33-year-old Peter Boehm was the main suspect, and on Tuesday morning, he turned himself in to the police.

Boehm was charged with first-degree manslaughter and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He was booked into the Onondaga County Justice Center and is awaiting arraignment.

Triple the big winners

Shifting now from terrible news for lottery players to happy news for other players. The New York Lottery recently announced that multiple tickets were sold, winning the $1,000 a week for life prize for the July 13 Cash4Life drawing.

Yes, three tickets in one drawing took home the second-tier prize of $1,000 a week for life for the Cash4Life game. The winning tickets were sold at:

  • Sutter Liquors & Wine, located at 613 Sutter Ave. in Brooklyn. The prize-winning ticket was worth a guaranteed minimum of $1,000,000.
  • BNA Quick Stop, located at 100-11 Queens Blvd. in Forest Hills. The prize-winning ticket was worth a guaranteed minimum of $1,000,000.
  • West 17th Street Newsstand, located at 99 9th Ave. in Manhattan. The prize-winning ticket was worth a guaranteed minimum of $1,000,000.

The winning white ball numbers for that July 13 drawing were 13, 35, 36, 38, and 49, and the Cash Ball was 2. The prize-winning tickets all matched the five white ball numbers but did not match the Cash Ball number. If they had matched the Cash Ball also, they would have won the top prize for the game, which is $1,000 a day for life.

Cash4Life is a daily draw game that takes place daily at about 9 p.m. ET. The winning numbers for the Cash4Life game are drawn from a field of 1 to 60. The Cash Ball is drawn from a separate field of 1 to 4.

If you are holding onto one of these winning Cash4Life tickets, you have up to one year from the date of the drawing in order to claim your prize.

Enjoy playing the New York Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
