Someone in North Carolina is feeling very lucky right now — is it you?

One lucky ticket purchased in Burlington for the Friday, April 12, Mega Millions drawing happened to win $2 million from the North Carolina Lottery.

The winning ticket

The $2 million winning ticket was purchased at Philomena Inc., located at 3503 South Church St. in Burlington. The ticket matched all five white balls to win $1 million. However, the ticket was a Megaplier ticket, so the prize doubled to $2 million.

For the April 12 Mega Millions drawing, the five white balls were 1, 12, 14, 18, and 66, and the Mega Ball was 16.

The $2 million prize from North Carolina was the largest prize won during the April 12 drawing. The odds of matching all five of the white balls are 1 in 12.6 million.

Lucky Friday in North Carolina

While there was the $2 million winner, the North Carolina Lottery announced there were some other big wins that took place during lottery games across the state on April 12. Those winners include:

  • $100,000 Cash 5 jackpot winner - Winning ticket was purchased in Cullowhee.

Claiming your prize in North Carolina

For these lucky winners, they all have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. How you claim your prize depends on how much the winning ticket is. For any prize of $599 or lower, players can claim at any local lottery retailer, at any North Carolina Lottery claim center, at the North Carolina Lottery Headquarters, or by mail.

Prizes of $600 to $99,999 can be claimed at any North Carolina Lottery claim center, at the North Carolina Lottery Headquarters, or by mail.

Prizes of $100,000 or more need to be claimed at the North Carolina Lottery Headquarters.

Before you can claim your prize, you must sign the back of the original ticket. The original ticket is required for all claims, so don't forget it. For any prizes of $600 or more, winners will also need to bring:

  • A North Carolina Lottery claim form.
  • Photo ID verifying name, signature, and age.
  • Social Security card.

If you mail your winning ticket to be claimed, it must be received by the North Carolina Lottery headquarters or regional office within 180 days of the drawing. Postmarks do not constitute satisfaction of the date requirement. The winning ticket and proper forms need to be in the hands of lottery officials before the 180 days expire.

Information on how to claim a prize, including downloadable claim forms, can be found on the Lottery USA website by clicking here and going to the 'Claiming prizes' section.

Enjoy playing the North Carolina Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
