Sometimes, the universe has other plans for you, and that is what happened to this lucky Missouri Lottery player recently!

He can fill his gas tank now!

To go from wanting enough money to fill your gas tank to winning a $540,000 jackpot. That is what happened to this Missouri man, as he explained to Lottery officials.

He shared:

This is the craziest story. I get in my truck to get gas and had zero dollars in my pocket and no wallet. Then I remembered I had some Show Me Cash tickets in the console.

So, he headed to the nearest gas station and decided to start scanning his lottery tickets to see if he had any winners and how much gas he could afford to put in his truck. As it turns out, he could afford a few full tanks!

He recalled:

I started checking my tickets. I win $7. The last ticket said 'Claim at Lottery,' so I had clerk scan the ticket.

The clerk then whispered to him, “You're the guy!” Confused, he said, “What are you talking about?”

The clerk then told the lucky winner that a Show Me Cash jackpot-winning ticket had been sold in Joplin and then showed him the winning numbers from the May 31 drawing.

He told Lottery officials:

I looked down and saw $541,000 and said "Bull crap, get out of here."

There was no lying, as the clerk told him that he did win, and he said, "Well, I need $7 in gas."

Now that he had gas in his tank, it was time to head home and tell his wife. He told Lottery officials:

I promised her a house before a new truck. I told her, "Well, I guess you get your new house."

The winning ticket

The winning ticket was for the May 31 Show Me Cash drawing. The winning numbers for that night were 15, 17, 18, 34, and 36. Of course, the lucky winner matched all five of the numbers to win the $541,000 jackpot prize that night.

He purchased the winning ticket at White Oak USA Investments #235, located at 1930 S. Shifferdecker Ave. in Joplin.

Show Me Cash is a daily draw game from the Missouri Lottery. The drawings take place at 8:59 p.m., and the jackpot starts at $50,000 and grows until won.

Jasper County winners

This lucky winner purchased his winning Show Me Cash ticket in Jasper County, which has been lucky for other lottery players as well. The Missouri Lottery states that in FY23, tickets purchased in Jasper County have won more than $15.7 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes.

Those lottery winners also helped put some extra money into the pockets of the Lottery retailers, who received more than $1.5 million in commissions and bonuses. In addition, education programs in the county received more than $3.4 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.

Enjoy playing the Missouri Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
