A lottery club in Berrien County thought they were celebrating a modest $50 win. Instead, they were holding a record-breaking $4.14 million jackpot ticket. The two-member 126 Lottery Club purchased the Detroit Lions Rush for Riches Fast Cash ticket in Buchanan. It ended up being the biggest Fast Cash prize ever won in Michigan.

Chasing a jackpot

The lottery club members purchased their winning ticket at American Legion Post 51, located at 403 East Front Street in Buchanan, which is about 70 miles southwest of Kalamazoo.

One of the club members told lottery officials:

I bought several Fast Cash tickets that night because the jackpot was so high.

After looking over the tickets, the anonymous winner thought they had a $50 winner. However, they scanned it to double-check. That second look changed everything!

On a side note, I have purchased these Fast Cash tickets. I can attest to it being difficult to understand, as there are so many symbols and icons on one ticket. It can be hard to see what you actually won.

A scan that changed everything

The lottery club member scanned the ticket at the retailer. That is when they received a message saying they needed to file a claim at the Lottery office.

They thought this was odd, especially for a $50 winner. They decided to scan it again using the Michigan Lottery app.

The club member told lottery officials:

I started shaking when $4.14 million came up on my phone screen! Winning this kind of money is life-changing.

While they initially thought they won a routine Fast Cash payout for the $10 ticket, it actually turned out to be a winner of the progressive jackpot. This jackpot steadily grows with every ticket sold statewide.

The previous Fast Cash record jackpot was $2.39 million, so this shatters that record. The previous jackpot was won in March 2025 by a Shiawassee County man who was playing Jackpot Slots Millionaire, a $30 ticket.

How do these Fast Cash jackpots work?

Unlike draw games, like Powerball or Lotto 47 in Michigan, Fast Cash games offer instant results. The tickets print directly from lottery terminals at lottery retailers, and players find out immediately if they've won. Think a scratch-off ticket without any of the scratching!

All of the Fast Cash games, which the Michigan Lottery currently offers 13 options, feed into a shared progressive jackpot. Each ticket sold pushes the jackpot higher, and the current jackpot prints right on the ticket when you buy it.

The jackpot can be won at any moment. Once it hits, it resets to $10,000 and starts growing immediately.

The amount you win depends on the ticket you purchase. Some tickets offer a percentage of the jackpot for winning, while others award 100% of the jackpot when it's won. There are even some, like Jackpot Slots Millionaire, which award 100% of the jackpot plus an additional $1 million.

Now that the lottery club members have their prize in hand, they are planning their next big move. Those plans include buying a new home, a trip to Disney, and setting aside some of the money for the future.

Enjoy playing the Michigan Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
