The wait is over! The lucky Illinois resident who snagged the massive $552 million Mega Millions jackpot through the iLottery platform has finally claimed their prize. This win marks a historic moment, not just for the lucky winner but for the state of Illinois as well.

Nicknamed "MEGA Millionaire" for obvious reasons, the winner purchased their ticket online, making this the largest jackpot ever won through iLottery in the US.

MEGA Millionaire requested anonymity but shared their initial disbelief upon discovering the win.

MEGA Millionaire said:

I was scrolling through my emails when I saw one from the Illinois Lottery saying to check my numbers because I won a prize. In the past, I've won $2 here or $5 there, so I assumed it would be similar.

The shock quickly set in:

You can't imagine my shock and disbelief when I saw that I had won the jackpot amount of $552 million. I actually quit the app and then signed back in to double check and make sure it was real. It was real alright - but it still feels unreal!

The winning numbers, drawn on June 4th, were 19-37-40-63-69 with a Mega Ball of 17.

From hardship to happy tears

The win is a life-changer for "MEGA Millionaire," who described a childhood shaped by a single mom's dedication.

They shared:

She had to work two jobs to provide for our family, to put food on the table, and for us to get an education. The day after I graduated from high school, I started working and I haven't stopped since.

Their work ethic and determination led them to success:

I've spent my life as a laborer and once I was making a decent living, I asked my mom to retire and let me take care of her. It was my way of thanking her for how much she sacrificed for us.

MEGA Millionaire added:

I haven't told her yet, but there will definitely be happy tears all around when I do.

And now, the newly minted millionaire can live out their ambitions. "I've always dreamed of retiring early and enjoying life with my family. I think it's safe to say my dream just came true.”

Historic win with a big impact

This online win wasn't just a personal victory. It ranks as the ninth-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever and the second-largest prize ever claimed in Illinois. The record remains with a $1.337 billion Mega Millions ticket purchased at a Des Plaines gas station in July 2022.

The win also benefits the state. During the jackpot roll, ticket sales generated nearly $28 million, with $11 million going toward the Common School Fund, which supports K-12 education in Illinois.

About the Illinois Lottery

Since 1974, the Illinois Lottery has contributed over $24 billion to the state's Common School Fund. Nearly 99% of Illinois Lottery proceeds go towards this vital cause.
