A golden retriever in China is being hailed as an unlikely lottery expert after turning a chaotic shopping trip into a winning moment. While out with his owner, the dog got out of his leash and ran into a nearby lottery shop. While there, he grabbed a scratch-off lottery ticket and left it covered in tooth marks.

The ticket was damaged, so the owner had to buy it. What happened next blew people’s minds and made them think: Hey, could my dog pick a winning lottery ticket? The dog's lucky streak didn't end there, leading many online to wonder if he has a special talent for picking winners.

Dog on the loose

A woman who was identified by her surname Lin, according to UPI, was out doing some shopping in Guangdong, China. Her golden retriever was with her when the dog suddenly pulled from its leash and ran into a nearby lottery shop.

By the time the woman caught up with her dog, the damage was already done. The dog had grabbed onto a scratch-off ticket and had left tooth marks all over it.

Because the property was now damaged, the store couldn’t sell it to anyone. That meant Lin had to pay for it.

An unexpected surprise

As it turns out, the dog must have some luck buried inside it. The ticket the golden retriever personally selected by mouth turned out to be a winner.

The winning ticket turned out to be for 1,000 yuan, which is about $139 USD.

Lin told AsiaOne, “I was so surprised. I’ve never won such a large sum of money in a lottery.”

So, maybe this dog has a sense of luck worked into them? Lin had to test it out.

The next day, Lin brought the dog back to the shop and let him pick another ticket. He did it again, but this time for a little less money. The winning ticket paid 30 yuan, which is a little over four dollars.

Stop while ahead

The dog is technically undefeated in picking winning tickets. Lin decided to take those wins and call it a day on the dog picking winning lottery tickets.

Lin didn’t ignore the fact that the dog was the reason behind those wins. She took the winnings and spent them on canned food and treats for the golden retriever.

Lottery players react to the win

The hilarious story made its way around the Chinese social platform Weibo. User of the platform dubbed the golden retriever a “fortune dog.”

One user joked, “I don’t know if I should buy a lottery ticket or a golden retriever.” Another user joked that the real money was in cutting out the middleman and simply acquiring the dog.

Yes, Lin didn’t win life-changing money from the lottery tickets. However, she did win. It’s a cute story that all seems to be centered around the dog’s stomach. He wanted to eat the lottery ticket, but then got food and treats from the lottery winnings. The story ends with a happy owner and a happy dog.

Enjoy playing the lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
