What are the odds of winning $1.3 million on your first day playing the lottery online? For Army service member Christopher Lehman, those odds paid off big time.

25 years of service, one day of luck

Christopher Lehman has dedicated 25 years to serving in the Army. The Beaver County resident recently moved from New Hampshire with his wife, Judith. On May 30, he decided to try his luck with Pennsylvania's online Lottery games.

His timing was perfect.

Lehman won $1,351,472 playing Jackpot Spectacular. The kicker? He signed up for his Pennsylvania Lottery online account the same day he won. Lehman recalled:

My wife always says I have good luck. I looked at the progressive prize amount for Jackpot Spectacular and thought, 'That one's about to pop soon.'

A calculated gamble

Military training teaches discipline and strategy. Lehman applied both to his Lottery play. He budgeted exactly $100 for that day's games.

"I figured, if I lose, I lose," he said.

The progressive jackpot kept growing until someone won it. Lehman's instincts told him the prize was ready to hit. His military experience probably helped him spot the opportunity.

The moment everything changed

When the bonus round triggered, Lehman couldn't believe his screen. He stared at the numbers. His wife doubted what she was seeing.

They called the Pennsylvania Lottery together. Lehman put the phone on speaker so both could hear the confirmation. The win was real.

Why this win matters beyond the money

This isn't just another Lottery story. It's about a service member getting financial freedom after decades of dedication to his country.

Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko said it best: "We thank him for his service." Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne added congratulations while noting how every Lottery purchase supports programs for older Pennsylvanians.

The win serves multiple purposes. It changes one family's life while funding services for seniors across the state.

Smart money moves ahead

What will a quarter-century Army veteran do with $1.3 million? Lehman and Judith have practical plans:

  • Pay off their mortgage
  • Clear Judith's car loan
  • Invest the remainder

The timing couldn't be better for the Lehman family. Christopher's youngest daughter graduates from Army Basic Combat Training on June 12. Now he can travel to celebrate her accomplishment.

How Jackpot Spectacular works

Jackpot Spectacular is a connect-style game with progressive jackpots shared across multiple states. The prize grows until someone wins it in any participating state.

Players can reveal multipliers up to 50 times their bet. The game offers 10 free games and bonus rounds. Christopher hit the jackpot during one of these bonus features.

Pennsylvania's online lottery

The Pennsylvania Lottery launched online games in May 2018. Since then, they've generated over $500 million in profit for programs benefiting older residents.

Pennsylvania stands among 13 states that sell lottery products online. The state remains unique in directing all proceeds to programs for older residents.
