A $650,000 jackpot up for grabs, a winning ticket purchased online, and the Illinois Lottery's growing trend of big online wins — could this be your Lucky Day? The latest winner joins an impressive lineup of online ticket purchasers scoring life-changing prizes, highlighting a shift in how Illinois players are cashing in on their luck.

While traditional retail locations remain popular, the convenience of buying tickets from your phone or computer is quickly becoming a game-changer. From six-figure jackpots to a record-breaking $552 million win, Illinois' digital lottery platform is delivering wins in more ways than one. Could you be the latest big winner?

Jackpot winner — is it you?

Before the Tuesday, January 7, 2025, evening drawing for the Lucky Day Lotto draw game, the jackpot stood at $650,000. The winning numbers for last night's drawing were 16, 20, 29, 36, and 45.

According to the Illinois Lottery website, there was one lucky ticket that matched all five of the winning numbers to claim the jackpot prize. That winning ticket happened to be purchased online at the Illinois Lottery website.

An uptick in online ticket winners

While lottery winners from retail locations still reign supreme in Illinois, there definitely has been an uptick in the number of winners who purchased their lottery tickets online. Besides this $650,000 Lucky Day Lotto winner, we have also seen some pretty big wins come from online ticket purchases in the state, which include:

  • $125,000 Lucky Day Lotto prize from the November 18, 2024 drawing.
  • $250,000 Lucky Day Lotto prize from the October 7, 2024 drawing.
  • $2 million Powerball prize from the October 7, 2024 drawing.
  • $1 million Powerball prize from the October 2, 2024 drawing.
  • $350,000 Lucky Day Lotto prize from the September 29, 2024 drawing.
  • $900,000 Lucky Day Lotto prize from the August 3, 2024 drawing.
  • $1 million Mega Millions prize from the July 30, 2024 drawing.
  • $552 million Mega Millions jackpot from the June 4, 2024 drawing. This happens to be the largest jackpot won through iLottery in the country.
  • $1 million Mega Millions prize from the March 30, 2024 drawing.

The winning continues to happen for the online platform and it happens to be bringing some of the bigger wins for the state.

Lucky Day Lotto – how does it work?

This in-state draw game takes place twice a day, with drawings taking place at 12:40 p.m. and 9:22 p.m. CT. Players can purchase their tickets from any local lottery retailer or online using the Illinois Lottery website or app.

Each Lucky Day Lotto play costs $1. To play, players must pick five numbers between 1 and 45, or they can select the Quick Pick option, and the computer will generate numbers for them. You will then need to select your purchase type and the time of the draw you want to play.

From there, players win by matching two or more numbers. The Lucky Day Lotto prizes are:

  • Match all five of the winning numbers to win the jackpot.
  • Match 4 of the 5 winning numbers to win $200.
  • Match 3 of the 5 winning numbers to win $15.
  • Match 2 of the 5 winning numbers to win $1.

Enjoy playing the Illinois Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
