A $5 instant game in Wisconsin turned into a $50,000 win for one lucky player.

The Wisconsin Lottery announced that one lucky player claimed the $50,000 top prize in the Lucky $50,000 instant game.

$50,000 winning ticket

Who wouldn't like to turn a $5 purchase into a $50,000 win? That is exactly what Charles S. of Oak Creek did when he purchased a Lucky $50,000 instant ticket recently.

Charles bought the winning ticket at the Piggly Wiggly in Oak Creek. With his win, the Wisconsin Lottery announced that there is one $50,000 top prize remaining in Lucky $50,000.

Lucky $50,000 — how does it work?

Lucky $50,000 is a $5 instant scratch game for the Wisconsin Lottery. Each ticket gives players 20 chances to win.

To play, you need to match any of YOUR NUMBERS to one of the WINNING NUMBERS and win the corresponding prize. If you reveal a “2X” symbol, then you win double the corresponding prize. Reveal a “5X” symbol, and you win five times the corresponding prize. If you reveal a “10X” symbol, then you win 10 times the corresponding prize. Reveal a “20X” symbol, and you win 20 times the corresponding prize.

The top prize in Lucky $50,000 is $50,000. With the win by Charles mentioned above, there is now only one top prize remaining. The overall odds in the game are 1 in 3.8.

Wisconsin Lottery — where does the money go?

Have you ever wondered where all the money that the Wisconsin Lottery brings in every year goes? Since 1988, the Wisconsin Lottery has managed the Lottery fund. Below is a breakdown of how that money is divided.

  • Over $10.8 billion in prizes paid — This works out to be 57% of the revenue earned from the Wisconsin Lottery. The Lottery must give at least 50% of total revenue to prize winnings.
  • Over $5.7 billion in funding for property tax credits — This works out to be 30.3% of the revenue earned from the Wisconsin Lottery. This money has been returned to eligible Wisconsin taxpayers.
  • Over $1.2 billion in retailer compensation paid — This works out to be 6.4% of the revenue earned from the Wisconsin Lottery. This money goes to Wisconsin businesses.
  • Over $1.2 billion in operational expenses — This works out to be 6.3% of the revenue earned from the Wisconsin Lottery. This money helps pay for expenses to keep the Lottery running, such as salaries, employee benefits, supplies, and services. The Lottery has operated well below the mandated limit of 10%.

Since 1988, the Wisconsin Lottery has generated more than $19.1 billion in total revenue. From that revenue, over 93% has gone back to winners, retailers, and Wisconsin homeowners.

Enjoy playing the Wisconsin Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
