One lucky ticket holder in North Carolina beat the odds and won $200,000 playing Powerball. Now, they are about to waste those odds and let the winning ticket expire!

The winning ticket

The winning ticket was purchased for the November 11, 2023, drawing. The ticket was purchased at Murphy USA, located at 2503 Lincolnton Highway in Cherryville.

The winning numbers for the November 11 draw were 1, 12, 14, 24, and 57, and the Powerball number was 7.

The ticket matched four of the white ball numbers and the Powerball number to win the prize, which is normally $50,000. However, this lucky winner also chose the Power Play option, which multiplied the winnings by four for this draw.

Now, Lottery officials are urging any Powerball players in North Carolina, especially those around the Gaston County area. Double-check those tickets and see if you are the winner of the unclaimed $200,000 prize.

Mark Michalko, executive director of the North Carolina Education Lottery said:

Search everywhere you keep your tickets and double-check any you have to see if you have the winning ticket. We hope that whomever purchased this ticket comes forward to claim their prize soon so we can celebrate their big win with them.

How to claim your prize

If you happen to be the lucky ticket holder of this unclaimed $200,000 prize, the winning ticket must be presented at the North Carolina Lottery headquarters in Raleigh by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, May 10. In North Carolina, players have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize, so that date marks the end of the claim window for the November 11 drawing.

When claiming your prize, you will also need to include a completed claim form, proof of your Social Security card, and a copy of your ID. For complete instructions and downloadable claim forms, check out our North Carolina Lottery page and go to the section labeled “Claiming prizes.”

Another lucky winner did claim his winning ticket

While the North Carolina Lottery waits for this winning ticket to be claimed, they did announce another winner, who won $100,000 playing the $20 Big Cash Payout scratch-off ticket.

Donald Cardwell of Kernersville recently made his way to lottery headquarters and claimed his $100,000, which he is using to go on his first cruise. He said:

We were planning to take a cruise to the Caribbean in the fall so I can use this win to help with that. I've never been on one before.

Cardwell purchased the winning ticket from Tony's Food Mart, located on Edgefield Road in Greensboro. After the required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $71,506. In addition to the cruise, Cardwell said he plans to pay some bills.

Big Cash Payout debuted in July 2023 and had four top prizes of $2 million available, as well as eight $100,000 prizes. There still remain two $2 million prizes and four $100,000 prizes to be claimed.

Enjoy playing the North Carolina Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
