Big dreams for a South Carolina couple almost went to the landfill as they threw their winning lottery ticket in the trash, thinking it was a loser!

From trash to treasure!

The Upstate couple bought the $5 Double Sided Dollars Extra Play ticket from the Circle K on E. Main St. in Spartanburg. The wife scratched the lottery ticket and thought it was a loser, so she threw it away in the trash.

However, her husband noticed the ticket in the trash, so he took it out and double checked it and realized the mistake! He yelled to his wife, “You have a 12 on it!”

The wife came back and scratched the ticket some more, and that is when she uncovered the $200,000 win.

The dream home was almost lost

Thanks to the husband's find, the dream home for this Upstate couple isn't lost. After winning the $200,000, they told lottery officials they plan on buying a new house. They are just happy and thankful everything worked out.

The odds of winning $200,000 on the Double Sided Dollars Extra Play game are 1 in 750,000. After the couple's win, officials said there is one more top prize remaining for the game.

For selling the winning ticket, the Circle K in Spartanburg will receive a bonus commission of $2,000 from the South Carolina Lottery.

Quick Pick Palmetto Cash 5 jackpot win

Another lucky South Carolina Education Lottery player from Union hit the Palmetto Cash 5 jackpot, playing a Quick Pick ticket, but with a twist.

The lucky winner, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased a Palmetto Cash 5 Quick Pick ticket for a previous drawing. He must have felt lucky with those numbers, as he went to buy a ticket for the June 11 drawing and asked the clerk to play those same numbers from the Quick Pick ticket — and it paid off!

The winning ticket

The winning numbers for that June 11 drawing were 5, 6, 9, 12, and 40. The lucky winner matched all five numbers to win the $120,000 rolling jackpot.

The winning ticket was purchased at Murphy gas station, located at 309 West Buffalo Springs Hwy. in Union.

He told lottery officials that the win “was a blessing,” and he plans on helping others with his winnings, as well as doing a few projects around the house.

For selling the winning ticket, Murphy USA #7470 in Union will receive a commission from the South Carolina Education Lottery of $1,200.

The odds of winning a Palmetto Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 850,668.

This winner needs to check the trash

While the winning couple checked the trash, another lucky winner may have thrown out a winning ticket and missed out on winning $40,000 in the Mega Millions!

The winning Mega Millions with Megaplier ticket was purchased from Hickory Point, located at 2806 E. Cherokee St. in Blacksburg, for the January 30 drawing. The winning ticket matched four white ball numbers and the Mega Ball number to win $40,000.

The winning white ball numbers for that January 30 drawing were 3, 5, 16, 58, and 59, and the Mega Ball number was 11.

The lucky winner has yet to claim the ticket and it must be claimed before 4 p.m. ET on Friday, July 26, at the Columbia Claims Center. If the winner is mailing it in, the envelope must be postmarked by Saturday, July 27.

If no one claims the winnings, the $40,000 will be deposited in the Education Lottery Account to support educational programs in the state.

Enjoy playing the South Carolina Education Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
