The finalists took to the stage, and a winner of the NASCAR Powerball Playoff was crowned, as a lucky Louisiana Lottery player won the $1 million top prize.

Finalists converge on NASCAR Championship Weekend

Four lottery players who entered the Powerball promotion through their state lottery won a VIP trip for two to NASCAR Championship Weekend, which took place on November 8-10 at Phoenix Raceway.

The four finalists had a chance to win the $1 million, which was drawn live from the Phoenix Raceway and broadcast on NBC before the start of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race.

In the end, lottery officials drew the number of 47-year-old Meagan Lewis of New Orleans, Louisiana, who gasped when her number was picked by the machine.

Lewis told lottery officials, “I have no words. I got 42 text messages by the time I got off the stage!”

VIP weekend in Phoenix

Lewis was joined on stage by her mother, Patricia Brehm, after winning the $1 million. While she told lottery officials she plans on saving the money, she would like to eventually take her family on a cruise to Alaska.

The other three lottery players who made it to the VIP weekend but were eliminated during the championship drawing each won $10,000. Those players were:

  • Anthony Lawrence from Magnolia, Delaware
  • Beverly Lipford from Goldsboro, North Carolina
  • Michael Wells from Columbia, South Carolina

For the VIP trip, the lucky finalists received roundtrip airfare for two to Phoenix, Arizona, and three nights hotel accommodations. They also had a jam-packed weekend, which included:

  • Two Ally Curve Hospitality Club passes for both the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race on November 9 and the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race on November 10
  • Two passes for VIP experiences at Phoenix Raceway during the NASCAR Championship Weekend, including Cup Series VIP access
  • NASCAR team hauler tour
  • MRN radio booth tour
  • Pace car rides
  • Victory Lane access
  • Welcome dinner and all meals
  • Ground transportation to scheduled events and activities

Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, said:

This weekend has been thrilling from start to finish! As the official lottery game of NASCAR, this was our second year of adding to the anticipation and excitement of NASCAR Championship Weekend while offering players the chance to win this premier experience and $1 million prize.

Latest NASCAR Powerball Playoff

For the 2024 NASCAR Powerball Playoff, the finalists all entered through one of 27 participating state lotteries. These participating lotteries held in-state contests and second-chance drawings throughout the 2024 NASCAR regular season to form a national pool of entrants.

From that national pool, officials randomly selected 16 lottery players to advance to a series of playoff-style drawings. All 16 of the players were awarded cash prizes, which was based on their elimination position.

The state lotteries that participated in the 2024 NASCAR Powerball Playoff included Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Get ready for 2025

With the success and popularity of this promotion, officials have already said it will be back for another go-round in 2025.

Michelle Byron, NASCAR executive vice president, chief partnership, and licensing officer, commented:

This Powerball promotion has quickly become a fun, NASCAR-centric way to further engage our loyal fans and lottery players alike. Fans should be on the lookout for lottery activations at NASCAR races throughout the country next year for new chances to win.

Enjoy playing the lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
