The numbers behind New Jersey's broadest year of lottery wins

Every county saw meaningful wins in 2025, driven less by jackpots and more by steady prize volume.

When people think of lottery success, they often think about massive jackpots making headlines. However, the numbers tell a different story in New Jersey in 2025. No, the year wasn't dominated by a handful of big wins. Instead, the Garden State saw a steady, statewide flow of prizes, with most of them coming from five- and six-figure wins rather than top jackpots.

In 2025, almost 900 New Jersey Lottery players won prizes of at least $10,000. That level of wins helps reshape how the year looks when viewed through a data lens. That scale matters because it shows lottery success wasn't concentrated in a few lucky spots or moments, but it was widely distributed.

Every county was a winner

One of the biggest takeaways from the 2025 numbers was the geographic balance. New Jersey has a total of 21 counties. All of those counties had at least seven winners of $10,000 or more during the year.

Yes, the bigger counties naturally had more winners, like Bergen County having 118 big wins and Middlesex having 98. The numbers for these bigger counties largely tracked population size.

When adjusting for population, most counties came out to be close to the statewide average, which is about one $10,000-plus winner for every 10,000 residents. Warren County was the standout, as it had one big winner for about every 6,800 residents. This kind of uniformity is something to note in a system built on randomness.

Mid-tier prizes for the win

As lottery players, we frequently concentrate on those enormous Powerball and Mega Millions payouts. These smaller, mid-tier jackpots and prizes, however, have the potential to be equally transformative.

Indeed, more than 60 prizes of $1 million or more were awarded in New Jersey in 2025. But they weren't the whole picture. Without even hitting the jackpot, hundreds of players made it to five or six figures. The majority of the state's big-win total came from these mid-tier awards.

Numerous prizes ranging from $10,000 to $4 million were contributed by multi-state games like Powerball and Mega Millions, particularly after Mega Millions altered its game style in April. These 2025 figures were also significantly influenced by in-state games.

Thirteen of the 65 jackpots won by Jersey Cash 5 players were worth at least $1 million. Four more jackpots were won by Pick-6 players.

Scratch-offs came next. They contributed to the trend by awarding some of the year's largest cash prizes without the need for jackpot-style odds. All things considered, these games produced a tiered reward system that favored stability over extremes.

It was all about frequency, not flash

A record-breaking prize wasn't what made 2025 New Jersey's lottery year memorable. It was about frequency instead. These significant victories would frequently occur in a variety of games, counties, and prize tiers. The year was statistically unique because of the consistent number of winners.

These figures indicate that significant lottery winnings in the state are distributed more fairly than many participants believe. According to observers, the data indicate a year in which volume rather than volatility influenced the result. Where the jackpots ended up was not the biggest story of the year; rather, it was the frequency with which players won around the state.

Enjoy playing the New Jersey Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
