From being disappointed one night to winning big the very next night, that is the rollercoaster ride this Michigan Lottery player went on recently!

So close to right on!

A Macomb County man missed out on the Fantasy 5 jackpot by one number and was pretty bummed. The next night, he played again, and this time, he matched all five numbers to win the $795,905 jackpot!

The 53-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched all five of the Fantasy 5 numbers for the July 27 drawing to win the jackpot. The numbers for that July 27 drawing were 2, 5, 17, 21, and 30. He purchased his winning ticket online at the Michigan Lottery website.

The lucky winner told lottery officials, “I always buy Fantasy 5 tickets if the jackpot is over $250,000. I usually buy my tickets in-store, but the night of the drawing, I realized I'd forgotten to buy some, so I logged onto MichiganLottery.com and bought two.”

The emails started to arrive

The drawing took place that night, and then he started to get emails from the Michigan Lottery.

He told lottery officials:

I saw an email from the (Michigan) Lottery that said I had won $1 in the drawing. I thought that was all I'd won until another email came through telling me to log into my account to claim my prize. When I logged in and saw $795,905 pending, my first thought was that it was a scam. Now that I am at the Lottery office claiming my prize, it's starting to hit me that this is real!

From $100 to the jackpot!

The night before his big jackpot win, he happened to play Fantasy 5 and matched four out of the five numbers for that drawing. While he was excited to win $100, you have to feel a little bummed when getting so close to a big jackpot.

Well, he doesn't have to feel bummed anymore, as he took home the big jackpot the very next night. He told lottery officials, “I never could have imagined then that the next night I would actually win the jackpot!”

In a press release from the Michigan Lottery, Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said:

Our online games give players a convenient way to play in cases like this where they were not able to get to their favorite retailer. Our online platform also features robust responsible gaming tools to help players regulate their play making sure it stays fun and entertaining.

The lucky winner recently made his way to the lottery headquarters to claim his winnings. With the money in hand, he said he plans on investing this jackpot for the future.

Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week in Michigan. The drawings take place at 7:29 p.m. ET. Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or online at the Michigan Lottery website. Ticket sales close for that day's drawing at 7:08 p.m. ET.

Enjoy playing the Michigan Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
