Massachusetts is celebrating a record-breaking win in digital lottery play as a Suffolk County resident won $2.5 million through Lotto.com. This happened to be the largest Lotto.com prize ever awarded in the state. The win came from the MERRY & BRIGHT seasonal scratch game, and the customer, who purchased the ticket just days before their birthday, described the moment as “unbelievable.”

Record scratch win in Suffolk County

Unlike traditional lottery winners who purchase tickets at physical stores, this record-setting prize was claimed entirely online through a phone, underscoring the growing popularity of digital lottery platforms in Massachusetts.

The winner said they appreciated the convenience of playing from home, especially since they find it hard to find a local Massachusetts Lottery retailer. They also enjoy the ability to filter games by price, a feature that has made Lotto.com appealing to both new and experienced players.

Now that the lucky player has the winnings in hand, they plan on paying off student debt, surprising their family with holiday gifts, and buying a home.

In addition to being the biggest prize ever won in Massachusetts through Lotto.com, the win also represents the following for the lottery platform: the highest scratch prize of 2025, the second-highest scratch prize ever, the fourth-highest overall win, and the twelfth million-dollar-plus win.

A winning streak in Massachusetts

This $2.5 million win is part of a bigger streak of wins in the state, including a recent prize of $250,000 for another Lotto.com player.

Nicholas, who happens to be a new Lotto.com player, won the $250,000 prize playing the “Winter Winnings” scratch game. This also happened to be his second major prize in less than a month, continuing that Massachusetts winning streak.

He recently claimed his winnings and told lottery officials he plans on using the money for home improvements. He also commented on how these digital lottery platforms can have an immediate, practical impact on players’ lives.

In a press release, Thomas Metzger, CEO of Lotto.com, said, “This incredible momentum in Massachusetts underscores the excitement and accessibility that Lotto.com brings to players nationwide. From our record-setting $2.5 million winner to repeat winners like Nicholas, these stories show how Lotto.com is redefining the lottery experience with simplicity, security, and life-changing potential.”

The impact beyond individual prizes

While these individual prizes help the players, Lotto.com’s digital platform also helps contribute to state-run programs in the state. These programs include education, transportation, and community services.

Each of these winning lottery tickets purchased online continues to support vital public programs, ensuring that digital play benefits both players and residents.

How Lotto.com is reshaping lottery play

Founded in Jersey City, New Jersey, Lotto.com is the first digital platform for purchasing official state lottery draw and scratch games through mobile and web platforms. The platform currently operates in 11 states, including Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Oregon, with plans for further expansion.

Since launching, Lotto.com has created 12 millionaires and distributed one of its largest-ever scratch-ticket wins, which was $3 million in Colorado. The company’s digital approach allows users to access state lotteries more easily while contributing to incremental funding for education, parks, emergency services, and other programs.

We continue to see the growth of digital play, including the recent passage of online play in Colorado. This record win in Massachusetts shows how online platforms are reshaping lottery habits. They make it easier than ever for players to try their luck from home and potentially change their lives.

Enjoy playing the Massachusetts Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
