A big Mega Millions jackpot win hit Illinois yet again!

The lucky state

Lottery luck, particularly luck in the Mega Millions game, seems to be a thing for Illinois Lottery players. An Illinois Lottery player matched all six of the winning Mega Millions numbers in last night's drawing to win the whopping $552 million jackpot, the ninth largest in Mega Millions history!

The lucky winner purchased their winning ticket on the Illinois Lottery mobile app, making it the largest prize ever won by an online lottery player in the United States.

The winning white ball numbers for the June 4 drawing were 19, 37, 40, 63, and 69, and the Mega Ball number was 17.

This jackpot win happens to be the second big win in the last two years for Mega Millions players in the state of Illinois. Just two years ago, a single lottery ticket purchased at a Speedway convenience store in Des Plaines matched all six winning numbers. For that big win, two lucky Illinois Lottery players won the $1.34 billion Mega Millions jackpot.

That big win two years ago remains the largest lottery prize ever won in the state. At the time, it was the third-largest lottery prize ever won in the United States.

2024 has been lucky for Illinois Lottery players

It has been a lucky year for players of the Illinois Lottery. The lucky $552 million jackpot winner is now the fourth player in the state to win a prize of a million dollars or more playing Mega Millions so far this year.

It happened to be a very lucky week for Illinois Lottery players also, as this is the second online player to win over a million dollars this week. There was a historic Fast Play winner of $2.8 million dollars that also took place on June 4.

Other Mega Millions winners

In addition to the jackpot being claimed in last night's drawing, there were also plenty of other winners taking home some cash. According to the Mega Millions website, there were 944,852 other winning tickets in the June 4 drawing.

Of those winning tickets, two of them matched all five of the white balls (but not the Mega Ball number) to win the game's second-tier prize. Those winning tickets were sold in California and Maryland.

For the game's third-tier prize, there were 27 tickets across the country that matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball. Four of those tickets are worth $30,000 each because of the Megaplier, which was 3X last night. The other 23 third-tier winning tickets will take home the standard $10,000 each.

Jackpot run stats

For this latest jackpot run, which came to an end last night, there were more than 14.2 million winning tickets at all prize levels. These winning tickets range from $2 up to $4 million (plus the $552 million jackpot).

The winning was spread across the country too, as there were 34 second-tier prizes of $1 million or more won in 15 different jurisdictions: Arizona, California, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas.

Enjoy playing the Illinois Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
